Background
LUFAWA CORPORATIVE group comprises of rural coffee farmers who are keen to commit themselves in coffee
farming and marketing. It was established on the 28th
December 2014. The group is situated right in the heart of
Chuave electorate under Siane Local Level Government, Chimbu province of Papua New Guinea.
The group is made up of 300-400 coffee farmers with approximately 200 thousand coffee trees. These are purely
quality organic coffees. The topography here is mountainous with big rivers and creeks carrying limestone sediments
from the stony hills. The soil is loamy and fertile for coffee farming and other agricultural activities.
The name LUFAWA was derived from the three tribal clans name initials under Komuni clan. The names represent
traditional BIRDS (NAMA).
LU- Nama Lunefa tribal clan
FA- Nama Famundi tribal clan
WA- Nama Wai tribal clan
The executives named are the members who were formally voted in by the farmers to lead the group. All executives
are just rural villagers and do not have any formal qualification. With faith and commitment, these rural coffee
farmers strongly believe to earn the benefit through this group with the support from PNG government, Coffee
Industry Corporation (CIC) and other relevant stakeholders.
Purpose
LUFAWA Corporative was established to meet the needs of rural farmers who do not have access to better coffee
processing and market. The group starts work at the village level to produce better quality coffee to meet the required
standard. The group has ambition to broaden its work to exporters & eventually to the overseas market whenever
possible moving forward.
The rural farmers have felt that for so long, their quality coffee had been sold on cheap prices through the hands of
buyers who do not experience the hard work and time spend in coffee farming. Therefore, through this initiative, the
farmers have mobilized to take coffee business to the next level.
Aim
The group aims;
To fully earn the benefits of establishing the corporative group
To comply with all guidelines stipulated by regulatory body
To maintain good reputation and long term relationship with all stakeholders involved in coffee
business
To produce better quality coffee that will meet the required standard
Core Values
The group has come up with the following ethics to look up on;
We believe in team work and corporation to make things happen
We work hard with faithfulness, honesty, transparency and integrity
We are committed in producing and processing the quality coffee beans of the required standard.
