RE: OPPOSITION TO STEPHAN SCHMIDHEINY EXTENSION AND SETTLEMENT
Dear Mayor Demezzi;
We at the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) have been informed of the offer Mr.
Schmidheiny's lawyers have made, and that you are considering a settlement with the defendant whereby the
City of CasalaMonferrato would withdraw from the trial in exchange for a sum of money. ADAO would like
to remind you that no amount of money can replace human life and that this trial is also about the injustice of
terrible past human rights violations.
The town of Casale not only represents your residents, but also serves as a symbol of justice for our
international community. We are deeply concerned about an extension and settlements offer from Stephan
Schmidheiny, as this symbolically impacts asbestos victims and citizens fighting against asbestos around the
world.
We are, therefore, asking the City Council of CasaleMonferrato to refuse Stephan Schmidheiny's offer.
ADAO has long supported your tireless efforts to protect your community and applauds your continued
plight for justice in the criminal case of Stephan Schmidheiny.
Sincerely,
Linda
