Creative meeting, brainstorming, de-

together in a team to think about how
the cover should look like – theoretically
– ranging from the design via the slogan
through to the final cover version.

everything you need for a good-looking

Dear customers, business partners &
employees,
W
e are living in a digital age and are constantly
developing further in line with the demands our
customers place on us, our work and with that on
our products. At the LogiMAT that took place in March 2016,
Logata Digital Solutions presented the new “Business AppS-
tore for Logistics”– based on the experiences made with the
logistics mall during the first years, our specialists have taken
up the course of optimizing the product, extended it accor-
ding to the customers’ wishes and also adapted its design.
Now software components can be combined in an easy and
secure way in the form of apps. Also new to the logistics mall
is wps, the warehouse management system of Lanfer Sys-
temhaus. Micro-services now ensure even more user-friend-
liness – read more about it on page 24. Lanfer Automation,
too, provides an exciting insight into their work in this issue.
The automation specialists are the “extended workbench”
of SN Maschinenbau: the global leader in the production
of rotary-type horizontal machines. LEBO shows its export
strength from Austria to Bucharest and provides an insight
into diverse projects. In the field of logistics, we will present
you our location in Birmingham, Britain, and will show you
how the returns of the textile company BONITA are managed
at the location in Duisburg. The future is our common path
and for that young and fresh minds are just as important as
the valuable experiences of our employees who have been
loyal to us for many years or decades. To them we have also
dedicated a few pages of this magazine – to say thank you.
Get infected with our thirst for action and innovation and
discover the new issue of LB Plus.

Christian Krüger from catkin GmbH provided an insight
into transport logistics and a clever use of digital networking.

ween companies and even mobile employees are simply
integrated into the process via apps. You can access those
apps from all over the world,” says Krüger. According to him,
this new way of working provides transparency and signifi-
cantly reduces the use of paper.
“Apps undoubtedly belong to the mega trends in the logi-
stics sector,” it is stated in the report of the event and this is
where Logata Digital Solution GmbH became involved. Dirk
Meyer presented the “Business AppStore for Logistics” and
the resulting possibilities to comfortably integrate apps.
According to Meyer, customizable apps that network and
exchange information represent the perfect solution for
warehouse logistics. “The result is an individual, consistent
process.

n addition to classic warehousing operations for BO-
NITA at the location of WM GROUP in Hamminkeln,
the logistics service provider now also undertakes the
returns management of the fashion company. “With
that, we also support our customer regarding the change
of the season,” logistics manager Christoph Erwig explains.
When changing from Autumn/Winter collection to Spring/
Summer collection or the other way around, all goods from
the stores are brought to the location of WM GROUP in Duis-
burg – unsorted. Christoph Erwig:“First of all, our employees
presort the clothes on the basis of the criteria specified by
BONITA first. That means that the clothes are sorted by type
before they are packed into homogeneous handling units.”

The Company
The TOM TAILOR GROUP is one of Europe’s leading fashion
and lifestyle companies. With its two umbrella brands TOM
TAILOR and BONITA, the group offers trendy clothes and
accessories in the mid-range price segment and appeals
to complementary target groups aged between 0 and 60
years.
The group of companies sells its brands in over 40 countries.
The brand BONITA is sold in more than 1000 retail stores as
well as in vertically operated wholesale areas all across Eu-
rope. The brandTOMTAILOR is not only sold in 460 centrally
located retail stores, but also via the wholesale segment,
including 200 franchise stores, around 2900 shop-in-shops
and almost 8400 multi-label stores. Moreover, both brands
are available online – the brand TOM TAILOR is sold online
in 21 different countries. The company has around 6900

Every single piece of clothing is folded, packed into a
polybag for protection and then sent back to the cen-
tral warehouse of BONITA in Hamminkeln on pallets sor-
ted by article. While the stores used to send the goods
to Hamminkeln in the past, all clothes that need to be
processed are now directly sent to Duisburg. Christoph

proceed.”

Lanfer Automation as an
Extended Workbench
The contact between Markus Kuhlmann of Lanfer Auto-
mation and the responsible electrical engineer of SN Ma-
schinenbau Jan Kronenberg was established at a trade fair
at the beginning of 2015. “At that time Dr.-Ing. Christian
Kettler became the new manager of SN and we got into
conversation,”Kuhlmann remembers.
« From Packet Soup to Paint Bombs:
Lanfer Automation as a Long-Term
Partner of SN Maschinenbau »
Höller, Bosch, Westdickenberg and Laudenberg – SN
combines the technology and innovative strength of the
five most influential German packaging companies. With
five decades of experience, business acumen, foresight,
a unique culture of innovation and enormous personal
commitment, the SN management team has forged the
global leader for horizontal rotary machines. Today, Ger-
man packaging technology specialist SN Maschinenbau
GmbH is a company with a solid past and excellent pro-
spects for the future.
SN Maschinenbau is a strategic supplier for multinational
companies like Nestlé, Kraft Foods or Unilever.
The Company
Dr. Christian Kettler is the part of the management that
primarily controls the fate of the company on site, whe-
reas managing partner Dipl.-Ing. Olaf Clemens is on the
road a lot. Dr. Kettler: “He is the motor of innovation for
SN Maschinenbau. There is no stopping Mr Clemens. He
always provides news ideas and impulses when coming
back from his journeys and establishes a lot of interes-
ting and important contacts.” It is probably thanks to the
unstoppable thirst for action of the entire SN Maschinen-
bau team that the company continues to grow. While the
company had 45 employees in 2010, the number has in-
creased by 230 until today. “This rate of growth is above
average and very, very fast,” Dr. Kettler states. While the
increasing demands of such a strongly growing compa-
ny were integrated into and handled in day-to-day busi-
ness in the past, the graduate engineer now sees it as
one of his tasks to implement new, optimized processes
that need to be adapted. “What has been compensated
for by the great diligence of our employees until now,
needs to be compensated for by optimized processes
in future. There is an enormous identification with the
company and the employees are proud of what we have
achieved. That is the only reason why we could carry on
this workload for such a long time,” Dr. Kettler looks back
to the recent past.

One of the first optimizations the management perfor-
med in the last year was to outsource the switch cabinet
construction. “Lanfer Automation is a specialist in this
field and supports us to ensure stable processes. Besi-
des, outsourcing single elements in a clever way gives us
the possibility to further grow in line with the market at
a moderate pace,” says Dr. Kettler. The so-called “soft fac-
tors” are of high importance for a successful cooperation.
Clean communication prevents costs and ensures optimal
workflows. The details of the cooperation were put down
in a “Letter of Intend” in 2015, which represents the basis.
“One goal should be to integrate Lanfer Automation
as an extended workbench, with everything that comes
with that,” says Dr. Kettler. “For order reasons, the single
parts are still delivered by us. However, the aim should be
to outsource all subtasks included in the long term and
to have a completed switch cabinet delivered in the end.
There is still a lot to be done to determine the course.”
A Common View
of the Future
Besides, Lanfer Automation offers support regarding
software matters. “After having signed the Letter of In-
tend last year, we trained two employees and have been
another Rockwell Solutions Partner beside Siemens ever
since,” Markus Kuhlmann explains. “This would allow us to
also support SN Maschinenbau in software development.”
SN can imagine making single employees of Lanfer Au-
tomation familiar with “the heart of the machines” in the
long term so that they are also able to provide support
that exceeds the construction of switch cabinets. Markus
Kuhlmann:“It is a trustful cooperation and that is what you
need to develop ideas like this. We are very proud to have
such a partner.”

The Alpenhaus Katschberg was opened last year and is

The doors were delivered in Quirin Knotty Oak. In the midd-

apartments are furnished and fully equipped. The customers
can individually decide whether they prefer their apartment

T
his year, Lebo GmbH celebrates its 145th anni-
versary. The company LEBO was founded in the
city centre of Bocholt in 1871 and has been a
family-owned, long-established business ever
since. After the building was completely destroyed during
a fire in 1958, a new building was built on Händelstraße –
which is where the company’s headquarters are still located
today.
In June 2006, LB GmbH absorbed the company and
LEBO Türenwerke GmbH & Co. KG became Lebo GmbH.
Since then, the company has developed further in large
steps. We have met managing director Maximilian Löhr
and talked with him about the past, the power of innova-
tion and visions of the future.
▶ In the interview: Maximilian Löhr
LB Plus: LEBO is a company with a tradition – founded in
1871. A part of LB GmbH since 2006. Let’s look back on the
company’s development: What milestones can you name?
Maximilian Löhr: Looking at the period since 2006, one
of the first milestones surely is the expansion of our range
of white lacquer products. Back then, the trend was rather
towards doors with a wood look, no great future was pre-
dicted for white lacquer doors. However, contrary to all pre-
dictions, we have even expanded our range of white lac-
quer doors. Today, LEBO is known for a high-quality white
lacquer product portfolio covering all price ranges. I would
say that 2013 was a milestone, too. That year, we accele-
rated export activities by building representative offices
abroad and by creating dealership structures. In the same
year, we launched our fire protection product group, which
made us a full-range trader.

Wer macht eigentlich was?
Jeden Tag verbringt man einen Großteil bei der Arbeit, läuft
vielen Leuten tagtäglich über den Weg, aber was macht
derjenige eigentlich? „Das Sommerfest kann dann auch
helfen, Kontakte zu knüpfen, sich kennenzulernen – auch
über die Abteilungsgrenzen hinweg. „In lockerer Runde bei
einem kühlen Bier und leckeren Grillspezialitäten kommt
man dann schnell ins Gespräch“, so Wolf.

B
ereits zu Jahresbeginn wurde in den LEBO-Pro-
duktionshallen aufgerüstet. Eine neue, moderne-
re, leistungsfähigere und präzisere Bohrstraße
wurde angeschafft. Vormontiert beim Hersteller
Kraft in Rietberg, wurde die Bohrstraße Stück für Stück in
Bocholt montiert und schließlich in Betrieb genommen.
„Die Bohrstraße ist eine sehr große Investition und ein
wichtiger Schritt in diesem Jahr. Deshalb haben wir die
wm.mediapro mit einer Dokumentation beauftragt, die
diesen Meilenstein festhält“, erzählt die Marketing-Beauf-
tragte Karoline Wolf. Hinter dem Bild verbirgt sich der ent-
standene Film. Mehr zur Bohrstraße können Sie auch in
der ersten Ausgabe der LB Plus lesen.
In addition to numerous single investments, we also made
a big investment last year and integrated a new drilling line
by Kraft – another milestone in the history of LEBO.

LB Plus: It usually takes more than just one person or
one department to unleash the power of innovation and
the desire to develop further. How does the work at LEBO
look like?
Maximilian Löhr: We all try to drive the company forward
together. LEBO benefits from a proactive cooperation bet-
ween the employees, which is supported by different insti-
tutions. There are for instance product committees where
employees from all departments come together regularly
to exchange ideas and innovations regarding our products.
What’s more – and this is our finger on the pulse of the mar-
ket – we have a dealer council. Here, improvements concer-
ning production and customer service are discussed.
With the recently implemented energy management
system that meets the requirements of the DIN EN 50001
standard, LEBO GmbH received the respective certificate
from TÜV Rheinland in October 2015. With the help of
energy monitoring, energy flows have been documented
and analysed since then, which will result in energy saving
measures over the long term. “In the long term, it also se-
cures the company’s competitiveness and saves electricity
and energy costs,”LEBO energy manager Frank Wennema-
ring explains.
See here for more information on energy monitoring.
LEBO successfully

For some time, lean management has played an impor-
tant role within the entire group of companies, too. Daily
shop floor meetings promote exchanges and employee
input while ensuring fast and uncomplicated problem
solving as well as a potential increase in all areas.
Above all stands our“Strategy 2020”that specifies milesto-
nes as well as our great visions of the future.
LB Plus: The new image film that was realized in 2015
focuses on nature and with that on subjects like “Clima-
te protection” or “Energy efficiency”. How do you practice
those topics at LEBO?

« A Film as a‘Silent Sales Assistant’»
I
n autumn 2015, the Logata Media Solutions team recei-
ved a special image film order –in many respects. The
customer: Reifen Fricke GmbH. Tyre specialist dealer,
professional motor vehicle workshop and paint shop.
“With the growing range of services we offer our customers,
we see ourselves as a service provider for all aspects of mo-
bility. This is also what we want the image film to convey,”
managing director Sebastian Wedemeyer explains.
60 61
The Idea: A Film Shot from
First-Person Perspective
“The team of Reifen Fricke had already done some
thinking about the image film beforehand and had a
very specific idea of how it should look like,” production
manager Peter Wecking remembers. The first screenplay
draft came from the customer himself and was used as a
basis to quickly write a final screenplay and make a con-
crete production schedule. “Due to the fact that the film
should lead the customer through the different depart-
ments of the company, many details had to be taken into
consideration beforehand. All scenes were shot from va-
rious perspectives and every little detail shown had to be
just right for editing,” says Wecking. The film was shot at
six different shooting locations in three days and almost
the entire staff of Fricke was involved. “Of course, many
of them were a bit sceptical about standing in front of
a camera first. However, all scepticism disappeared du-
ring the shooting and everyone was very impressed by
the professionalism,” says Sebastian Wedemeyer in retro-
spect. “It was exciting for us to have a look over a film
team’s shoulder.”
Animation as a Central
Design Element
Back in Bocholt the post-production started. Scenes had
to be sorted and the best ones had to be selected, edited
and put together to a film. A special characteristic of the
film is the fact that there is no off-text. “The film will par-
ticularly be shown in our sales area – without sound, as
a silent sales assistant so to speak,” Sebastian Wedemeyer
explains.“That is why it had to be comprehensible without
sound, too.” This is where Thomas Reiser came into play.
Among others, he is a specialist of animations at Logata

At that time, we implemented the first swap body system. It
was a roll-on system that allowed us to easily swap the swap
bodies. Back then, this system was ultramodern and set new
standards,”Löhr says.
Step by step, the company that had been founded ten years
ago further developed itself and arrived in the age of container
shipments in the mid 60s. From Rotterdam, Amsterdam and
Bremerhaven, 20’and 40’containers were shipped to New York

1966 – The next generation

of that time together with Hans-Wil-

remembers the formative events of that time. “At
that time, internationalization was already a big
issue even though you cannot compare the situ-

venture when a truck rode to France,” Hans-Wil-

In the beginning of the 60s, the first garage with
a work platform was built for the first vehicles. “It

time, I was also responsible for the expansion of international
business,”Hans-Wilhelm Löhr explains.
1967 – A second garage is built
In the end of the 60s, a second motor vehicle workshop was
built where office and order picking areas can still be found
today. Compared to the first one, this one had four work plat-
forms where the employees could repair vehicles. At that time,
the company’s fleet of vehicles had already grown to 35 tractor
units. The one-man business from 1951 has developed into a
company with more than 120 employees over the years.

B GmbH is a group of companies with four divisions, 13 companies and more than 800 employees. In our new
section, we would like to give you an insight into different departments. Who does what? A question we will
answer bit by bit in every issue.

Since October 2015, Melanie Wolbring and Dr. Julia Pradel have centrally managed the human resources department of
LB GmbH. As their responsibilities cover a wide range of fields within the entire group of companies, no day is like the
other. Numerous appointments out of the office, job interviews and meetings determine their daily routine. The offices of
the two human resources managers can be found at Gut Baarking. Here, they are dealing with all areas of human resour-
ces management in the company LB GmbH. We have spent one day with them.
08:00 a.m. – Melanie Wolbring starts her working day at the
desk. “Today, I’m going to write recommendation letters for
different employees. Of course, it’s the immediate supervisors
who evaluate the employees’performance, however, I always
have to write the final letter of recommendation. What’s
more, I have to draw up employment contracts before I have
a meeting with the shareholder Ann-Kathrin Löhr who is
responsible for human resources management. This is also
part of my job,”Wolbring says.
Meanwhile, Dr. Julia Pradel is planning an employee survey
in the office next door. “This employee survey is just one of
the many measures we planned for 2016 apart from the daily
human resources activities. We want to further improve our
human resources work in the group, which is why we are
currently planning group-wide concepts. The central issues
here are human resources development and staff retention.”
▶ Together, Dr. Julia Pradel and Melanie Wolbring
manage the human resources department
12:30 a.m. – Before lunch, employment contracts and
recommendation letters are sent out. In the late afternoon,
Julia Pradel will have another meeting with the works
council of LEBO – a company of the LB Group – and Melanie
Wolbring will have some staff meetings at another location.
This is why they have to gather all relevant documents
together first.

40. 15:00 p.m. – At around 05:00 p.m. the two finish work for
the day. “We don’t finish work at the same time every day.
Sometimes, we also have appointments in the evening or a
meeting that takes a bit longer than planned,”says Dr. Pradel.
“No day is like the other.”
12:00 p.m. – Now it’s getting creative. The two are standing
at a flip chart to prepare a workshop for machine operators
working for LEBO. “It’s about mutual training in the setup of
machines – the keyword is internal transfer of know-how,”Dr.
Julia Pradel explains.
