Task:
A server's responsibilities depend greatly on the business; however, in all cases his or her
primary duty is to provide good customer service, take orders, and deliver food. In most
situations, servers are expected to answer questions regarding the menu. They work closely with
other wait staff and the kitchen to ensure the restaurant is operated efficiently.
In upscale restaurants, servers are more a part of the dining experience, offering suggestions and
recommendations, such as wine pairings. They help to personalize the meal and their service is
more attentive and formal.
In restaurants with revolving menus, servers may need to meet with kitchen staff or managers
daily prior to service to discuss that day's offerings. Topics in these meetings may include
specials, food preparation, and ingredients used, especially if they may be a potential allergen to
some diners. Additional duties of a restaurant server may also include:

Al Fanar specialises exclusively in Emirati cuisine and all dishes are made in-house using
fresh local ingredients to maintain the authenticity of the Emirati culture and traditions
Tasks
 Answer customers' questions, and provide information on procedures or policies.
 Bag, box, wrap, or gift-wrap merchandise, and prepare packages for shipment.
 Compute and record totals of transactions.
 Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct

 Establish or identify prices of goods, services or admission, and tabulate bills using
calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.
 Greet customers entering establishments.
 Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
 Issue trading stamps, and redeem food stamps and coupons.
 Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
 Monitor checkoutstations to ensure that they have adequate cash available and that they are
staffed appropriately.
 Offer customers carry-out service at the completion of transactions.
 Process merchandise returns and exchanges.
 Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
 Request information or assistance using paging systems.
 Resolve customer complaints.
 Sort, count, and wrap currency and coins.
 Weigh items sold by weight in order to determine prices.
 Accept reservations or requests for take-out orders.
 Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales.
 Cash checks for customers.
