48. FULL RIDE BY WIRE SYSTEM
Magneti Marelli 7SM Torque Based control unit
Model Year 2013Electric system
Body
The electronic accelerator request corresponds to a target torque
value for the control unit. This value is adapted based on the
selected Riding Mode and consequently always compared with the
real torque value delivered by engine.
The delivered torque value is defined by the control unit and is
proportional to the intake air flow measured by the MAP
sensors.
The (traditional) dimensional plan with engine rpm/throttle defines
the target Lambda value and, consequently, the base injection
time.
Engine
Page 47
49. FULL RIDE BY WIRE SYSTEM
Magneti Marelli 7SM Torque Based control unit
Model Year 2013Electric system
ECU target is to equal the delivered torque value and the
requested torque value. This target can be achieved in two
different ways. In particular:
1) slow correction: throttle angle opening variation
2) quick correction: ignition advance correction
Option 2) is mainly used during idle speed adjustment or when low
torque values are required.
Under all other circumstances, control unit usually acts on throttle
opening value, namely on intake air = delivered torque value.
Page 48

NO BAS TUNING – NO BY-PASS SCREWS

features of the 2 TPS sensors

Whenever throttle bodies are changed, the fully closed position TPS values
stored inside the ECU shall be reset.

52. FULL RIDE BY WIRE SYSTEM
Idle speed increase strategy for battery voltage below threshold conditions.
This new strategy allows gaining up to 2 Ampere compared to the value available at
the nominal idle speed.
Vs = battery voltage threshold below which strategy is activated (default: 12.5V)
T1 [sec] = time for which Vbatt shall be lower than Vs threshold (default: 60
seconds)
Idle_2 = new idle speed reference value with active strategy (default: 1,500 rpm)
Page 51
Model Year 2013Electric system
53. AIS SYSTEM – SECONDARY AIR
Solenoid valve is usually controlled in closed position. It is opened only at low RPM
and throttle opening values. This additional air flow, which enters freely inside the
exhaust system by natural intake, allows optimising bike rideability under low load
and rpm conditions.
AIS ACTIVATION
Any possible secondary air system fault can be detected analysing the KO2 values
calculated by engine ECU for both cylinders after AIS has been activated through the
DDS2.0 tester.
Some conditions will have to be respected to complete the activation procedure. In
particular.
Page 52
Model Year 2013Electric system
54. LIMP-HOME STRATEGY:
In case of sensor / actuator / engine ECU fault, a recovery state according to F.M.E.A
(Failure modes and effects analysis) is validated. It has 4 different degrees of
severity:
1) RECOVERY_1: minor fault; the delivered torque is limited not to exceed 100
Km/h.
2) RECOVERY_2: APS (electronic accelerator) fault; engine rpm is set to 2,500 rpm,
independent of throttle request.
3) RECOVERY_3: fault relating to one of the two throttle bodies; the operating
cylinder is controlled to limit the reached speed at 40 Km/h.
4) STOP ENGINE: engine is turned off and ride cannot be continued.
If special faults are detected inside the ECU, a software automatic reset will be
launched to solve the existing problems.

56. DDS 2.0 – Copying and writing the VIN code inside the control unit
HYM MY13 VIN code (Vehicle Identification Number), exactly like on 1199 Panigale and
MULTISTRADA 1200 MY13, is written inside three electronic control units. In particular:
Instrument Panel (Dashboard)
BBS (Black Box)
Engine Electronics (Engine Control Unit)
DDS 2.0 – Copying and writing the odometer value inside the control unit
HYM MY2013, like Multistrada 1200, features the function used to transfer the ODOMETER
value from the Original Instrument Panel to the spare one (odometer mileage). In order to
ensure this, the ODOMETER value is stored both in the Instrument Panel and in the BBS
control unit.
The transfer of the BBS value to the Instrument Panel and vice versa is carried out by means of
the DDS 2.0 using the suitable function “ODOMETER Writing” available in the Instrument Panel
diagnosis section.

DTC - Ducati Traction Control
New Ducati Traction Control strategy based on the direct interaction with the
engine for driving torque reduction.
0-100% torque reduction management with 1% resolution. The "traditional"
system has 17 levels.
Driving torque reduction is achieved through the modulation of the requested
ignition advance value. This approach ensures a "soft" action of the system and
prevents the sharp reductions caused by the injection cutting.

sensitive antilift-up strategy.
3) ABS_3: sensitive braking intervention to increase bike safety and stability,
active anti-lift-up strategy.

HEATED GRIPS
With engine running, press the Start button to access the “H.GRIPS” menu. Press
the same button several times to shift cursor on the following settings: OFF - MIN -
MID – MAX
With engine off, the heated grips are disabled and they cannot be enabled.
After engine is started, if the battery charge is too low (< 11.9 V), heated grips are
disabled until the minimum required voltage is restored.
The heated grips can be switched off only selecting OFF on the special menu.
92. DUCATI PERFORMANCE – UP-MAP FUNCTION
In case of full exhaust system installation, as for 1199 Panigale model, the dedicated
calibration shall be downloaded through the UP-MAP device. This device shall be
connected to the DDA/diagnosis socket.
Once system is connected and recognised, the
message “UP-MAP CONNECTED” will be displayed
on the instrument panel.
In case it is not recognised, the message “UP-MAP
NOT COMPATIBLE” will be displayed.
The device can be disconnected only after the
indication “UNPLUG UP-MAP” is displayed.
Page 91

SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM
The secondary air system allows:
Continuing combustion even outside chamber by burning the unburnt gases
Increasing catalytic converter lifetime
Obtaining a stoichiometric ratio very close to the ideal one inside the combustion
chamber
Increasing the injected fuel quantity better combustion better vehicle
rideability at low rpm

SERVICE Function - Maintenance Operations
This function is used to inform the user that he/she should contact Ducati Service to
carry out the maintenance operations.
All maintenance indications can be reset by the Ducati Service using the DDS 2.0
diagnosis tester.
•First indication: OIL SERVICE (1000 Km)
It is enabled when the odometer counter reaches the first 1,000 km (600 miles). The
OIL SERVICE indication will come on flashing upon each Key-on for 5 seconds, while
the OIL SERVICE symbol will stay steady on.

Page 125
127. Remaining Mileage Indication - Countdown
After the indication is reset, upon each key-On, the type of intervention to be carried
out (OIL SERVICE or DESMO SERVICE) and the remaining mileage will be
displayed on the Instrument Panel.
The OIL SERVICE or DESMO SERVICE indications, the corresponding "symbols"
and the remaining mileage will be enabled (steady on) upon each Key-on for 2
seconds. When just 1,000 km are left before service threshold is reached, the
indication will be enabled (steady on) upon Key-On for 5 seconds.

128. Reached Mileage Indication - OIL SERVICE or DESMO SERVICE
Whenever the threshold required to carry out a maintenance operation is reached,
the type of operation to be carried out (OIL SERVICE or DESMO SERVICE) will
come on upon each Key-On.
The OIL SERVICE or DESMO SERVICE indication will come on (flashing) upon each
Key-On for 5 seconds; while the OIL SERVICE or DESMO SERVICE symbols will
be displayed steady on. Both indications will be active until reset by DUCATI
