• Both are downloadable applications
• MD is the older version that will eventually be replaced by MRM
• Access to downloading MD from Elsevier will cease on 1 September 2022
• It will still be downloadable from the Mendeley Library Guide
• Although newer, MRM is still not recommended because it lacks features of Mendeley
Desktop and its plugin, Mendeley Cite, is very faulty

• Search for a topic of your choice using Library Search

always work, but can be used
on most databases
• Some references will also
automatically attach the PDF
of an article if it is available
• You can also use it to export
the bibliographic details of a

works well in most electronic
databases
• However, if it does not work,
there are other ways to import
references
• Select multiple sources you
want to add to Mendeley by
clicking on the Folder icon to
the right of each search result

• The Web Importer works
excellently with ScienceDirect
and Scopus because they are
both Elsevier products, as is
Mendeley
• If it doesn’t work, you can still
import a single source, or
multiple sources
• Once selected, click on Export

• RIS, BibTeX and XML are common formats used to export citations from another
database or programme
• These formats can also be used to import citations from other reference
management software
• Practical demonstration
• Google Scholar
• Scopus

you can export citations using
the BibTex file format
• Click on Cite
• At the bottom of the popup
window, click on BibTeX

and select Save Page As…
• Make sure the file type is set as
Text Document
• Once saved, you can add it via

• If not available via the Web

• First you need to download the
