INTRODUCTION TO
Mr. Patrick Vun is one of the
experienced architect in
Sabah. He spent more than
20 years in architecture
field. He owns a firm in Kota
Kinabalu, Sabah and
succeed many projects in
Malaysia.
As an Architect, He is responsible in
designing a beautiful yet comfortable
buildings and shelters for the clients
and the community.
Why did you choose to be
an architect?

"It is because I am intereted in drawing.
I love to paint during my secondary
years. During my high school years, I
was not good in any other subjects, so I
had no choice but to choose to study
architecture."

3. How much is your salary
per month?

I worked in New York for a year later
and came back to Kota Kinabalu. then I
joined an architecture firm in Kota
Kinabalu. After 2 years, I took my Part
3 P.A.M (Petubuhan Arkitek Malaysia)
Exam and passed with flying colors. I
started to open up my own architect
firm until today. I have been working
as an architect for around 28 years."
"I don't have a fix salary because it
depends on the project. Before I
became a chartered architect, my
monthly salary is around RM1600 per
month."
"After Form 6, I stopped studying
and worked as a draft man for 2
years. During that period I didn't
know how to design. But I did the
draft design of an architect. After
that, I went to U.S.A. for 5 years to
further up my studies and graduated
in 1997.

4. "Right now, I don’t have the fix job, but
if you are a design architect, you’ll
need to create designs on the building,
sketch it out, then present it to your
client. If the client rejects your design,
you need to make improvements until
the client approves. You'll need to
submit your drawings to the local
authorities to get approval. Then you
have to tender out the contractor to
start building. After all is done, as an
architect, you need to supervise the
job. "

Vun Nyuk Pin's firm. He owns a firm in
Sabah (Arkitek PV + Tang Sdn. Bhd).
The firm not only provides architecture
services locally but to export his
services internationally.
The company,
Arkitek PV + Tang
Sdn Bhd, was
found in 1995 as an
architecture firm
in Kota Kinabalu
and was registered
with Lembaga
Arkitek Malaysia
and Ministry of
Finance Malaysia.
The company have
successfully
completed over 100
projects.
Currently, their
company has
about 30 ongoing
projects, 20 in
design stage and
about 10 sites
under
construction.

Tang Sdn. Bhd), not only
providing architecture
services locally but to
export their services
internationally. Their
goals and objectives are
to build a household
name where clients
would look for them.
Other than that, their
goals are also to get
an increasement of fees
from the minimum scale
of their fees. The
company does not only
into designing services
but they also did
planning and project
management services.

7. PROJECT 1TAMAN EKSEKUTIF GUARD HOUSE
The Taman Eksekutif
Guard House is one of
Ar. Patrick Vun Nyuk
Pin's smallest project
where it is located in
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The guard house was
built within 2.5 square
meters and was
comfortably designed by
the architect itself.
Before building the
guard house, Ar. Patrick
Vun had to meet up with
the client and discussed
briefly about the client
needs. Topics during the
meeting includes the
objectives,
requirements and
budget of doing the
project.
During the process of
the project, Ar.
Patrick Vun produced
detailed drawings
then, supervised and
commissioned the
contractors at the
construction site. He
also did a regular
check on site to
ensure that the
project is running on
time and right on
budget.
When the project is
finally done, Ar.
Patrick Vun maintain
the guard house
making sure that all
components of the
building are working
well.

8. PROJECT 2PPR - PROGRAM PERUMAHAN RALLY
The project 2 of one of
Ar. Patrick Vun's
project and also one of
the biggest project he
ever did was a
residential area,
namely the Program
Perumahan Rally
(PPR) which was
located in Sandakan,
Sabah. The
residential area is
calculated about 20
acres of land.
The process before
starting the
construction was
slightly different from
Project 1. He had to
meet up with the
client and discussed
thoroughly about the
project. The topics
are include the
objectives,
requirements and
budget of the project.
Once it is discussed,
and approved by the
client, Ar. Patrick
Vun finalized his
design and got the
approval of Building
Regulations
Approval for a
permission to build
the project.
During the
construction, the
same as project 1
process, Ar. Patrick
Vun produced
detailed
workings, drawings

9. and other specific
notes for
the contractors.
From time to time,
Ar. Patrick Vun too
checked on site to
ensure that the
project is on the right
budget and making
sure that the
contractors were on
the right track. But
unfortunately for Ar.
Patrick Vun, the
project was dragged
up to 6 years from 3
years time due to the
contractors silly
mistakes of
procrastination. It
was a very hard time
for the architect and
other profession with
him.
When the project is
finally done, Ar.
Patrick Vun and
other profession,
namely the
engineers, tested,
adjusted and
corrected all
components of the
building and made
sure everything was
going well. After
that, he applied for
Certificate of
Completion and
Compliance to
ensure that the
house buyers and
building owners get
to move in as quickly
as possible without
compromising their
safety.
Even after finishing
a project, Ar. Patrick
Vun still maintain

holds responsibility
on the project.
