2. Americans over-
shop and over
spend and it is only
making the
economy worse!
3. Money=Happiness?
Every person has the inherent desire to own things whether its
that new purse or that big house. Ownership gives a sense of
pride and success, but does it bring true happiness?
Money and status come from extrinsic goals and thinking one
will gain happiness by gaining power and looking good to
others, but in reality that happiness will come from fulfillment of
rather intrinsic goals. Instead of wasting money on that new
hair-do save it up or give it to charity and focus on self-
betterment. Growth, knowledge, and peace are the root of true
happiness.
Just imagine how hard you have to work to buy those things
only for them to be ruined or out of style in an instant. It makes
the purchase and hard work meaningless and you rather
unhappy.
“It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else, that prevents
us from living freely and nobly.” - Henry David Thoreau
5. Philosophical Thinking
Where does the desire to own come from. Is is nature or
nurture. One isn’t born with a need to buy, but rather its
an invention of society derived from a function of
interaction.
If money and trade were obsolete concepts and
everything was free and accessible to everyone what
would feel the need to have?
Everyone would be on the same playing field and
inanimate objects would not show that you are better
then any other person. You would have to show your
success through your actions and the person you are
rather then the items you own.

7. Human's create a
demand for and
produce products
that are not
necessary for
sustainable life. In
fact they are
cluttering the planet
and only inducing
global warming.
This greed only
makes things
worse.

stop the plague of
consumerism?
