1. Your Students,
Your Children
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher
explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires.”
― William Arthur Ward
2. Being an early childhood educator
means….
• Being a mother, friend, referee, nurse and leader figure
• Whipping noses, making sure little hands
are washed, straightening clothing
• Listening to stories, whether true or feigning
• Showing, helping your children to
understand, and understanding yourself,
right from wrong
• Worrying about anything and everything
• Drinking lots of coffee
• Having little to no personal freedom
• Giving and receiving little smiles and hugs
The list is endless, but the pros outweigh the cons and it is worth every split
second

4. As an early childhood educator, we
must understand:
• “Students are not only intellectual but also social
and emotional beings, and all these dimensions
interact to impact learning and performance”
• "We may exhibit an admirable command of
content, and possess a dazzling variety of
pedagogical skills, but without knowing what's
going on in our students heads, that knowledge
may be presented and that skill exercised in a
vacuum of misunderstanding."
– Stephen D. Brookfield, The Skillful Teacher
(2006)
• “Helping students grow intellectually requires
balancing the support you provide with the
challenges you pose”

Educational Innovation - Carnegie Mellon University.“)
