To Whom lt May Concern:
I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation in support of Karthik Murali. I have known Mr. Murali
since he began his studies at WNEU ln Winter 2O12.He has taken 3 of my classes as well as completed
his M.S. thesis with me over 2 semesters. He is an outstanding M.S. candidate in our department and
am pleased to support his application.
I
Karthik came to WNEU well prepared for the M.S. in Engineering Management program both
academically and mentally. As he tackled full course loads each of his semesters here, his level of
maturity and dedication to his studies was evident, as his work is routinely superior to those of his
classmates. I had the pleasure of first meeting Mr. Murali in EMGT 645: Quantitative Models in Supply
Chain Management. Based on his performancg in these courses, I could tellthat he might be an
excellent candidate to pursue the thesis option. His coursework, ability to perform extensive research
outside the course, independently and present his findings to the class are extraordinary. His written
work is definitely worthy of that of a top student and his verbal skills are superior as well.
Mr. Murali distinguished himself initially by proving his ability to work independently, as the majority of
the class took the course online and there were very few peers with which he had to work. He has
earned in A in every one of my classes. Due to his evident acumen for research, I was not surprised
when he approached me in the summer of 2012 and asked to pursue a thesis. As WNEU offers a
non-thesis option, this would be a first in 26 yearsl He had his research interests in mind - software
quality - and wanted to somehow merge that with the engineering management program. He spent the
summer performing an admirable literature search, subsequently published, and was well on his way to
developing a novel software quality rating system. His findings were presented mid-way to the
Department, graduate students and outside faculty members.
Karthik spent the fall of 2012 pursuing the development of this system, and I am pleased to say, created
an innovative, usefultoolfor measuring software quality in industry. These results were also presented
internally and were accepted to present at the lnternational Research Conference for the lnstitute of
lndustrial Engineers in May 2013.
Karthik is a dedicated, hard worker, a self-starter and has a level of maturity for his work and studies that
is often not found in students. His level of intelligence and diligence to complete work accurately and
professionally makes him an excellent candidate. I am pleased to present him as a candidate.
