A family are asked to house-sit for the parents bosses new house whilst he works
abroad.
The parents however don’t wish to move into the house and allow the two children
(18 and 17) to house-sit for them to allow them to experience independent living.
The teens, thinking of this as a holiday decided to record the stay for a joke video as
they expect to have a fun time. However, they start to notice strange things
happening and after looking back at the footage they notice that everything isn't
right.
As the first week progresses, things continue to happen and the teens become
intrigued as to what's going on. They decide to use a Ouija board as they believe it
has something to do with ghosts/spirits. The Ouija board goes horribly wrong and
then
the mysterious happening occur more often and more violent. The ghost/demon/
poltergeist then starts to show itself and the teens are never seen again.
Equilibrium – Teens move into house, thinking it as a kind of holiday enjoying
themselves. They decide to make home video.

Disturbance – They notice strange occurrences, more and more often. They
decide to do Ouija board, goes horribly wrong, more violent paranormal
occurrences.

New equilibrium/resolution –
This film differs as it does not end in the same way that films that follow the
narrative theory as there is no resolution as they teens are killed or abducted
and the film ends with the boss returning to his new home not knowing what
could happen – possible sequel.
My films main genre is horror. However, like most films it does not only
fit perfectly into the one genre. Even though the film is a horror, it
branches out into other genres. For example, my film will be done in a
handheld camera style. This is becoming ever more popular with such
recent films as cloverfield, paranormal activity, sinister, rec and many
other horror films. With the increasing popularity and films that film in
this style, handheld films are becoming a genre in itself.
This film also has aspects of a thriller and a psychological film. Unlike
some horrors that only feature gore, newer horrors are becoming more
psychological thrillers to scare the audience without being all about
blood and death.
These genres best fit my film.
For the director of my film I would have Scott Derrickson as he is a
very accomplished director and he specialises in directing horrors with
his most recent and most successful films are horrors including
‘sinister’ and ‘the last exorcism of Emily Rose’. I would like an
accomplished horror director as my film has similar aspects of films
such as sinister and Derrickson would be able to make the film as
effective in appealing to an audience as possible.

For the stars of the film (the two teens) I would have unknown actors to
make them seem as real as normal people as much as I possibly can.
With well known actors it would make the whole film just feel like a film
rather than real encounters which have a greater effect on the
audience.
The target audience for my film would be both genders. It would
have a vast age range as it is aimed at 16+ (age certificate) as
young teens are becoming more fond of the horror genre with the
increase in film such as paranormal activity and sinister. Groups of
friends can have a good time going to see scary films and simply
being scared with your mates is becoming increasingly popular.
They might also be able to relate to the two main characters as
they are 17 and 18. In the teen age range, it would appeal mostly
to males.
This film may then appeal to ages up to 40. This is possible as the
idea of someone's children being put into this situation will have an
effect on parents and they can relate to their own feelings as if it
was their own children and therefore making the experience more
real and more frightful.
Audience reception theory states that there are 3 main kinds
of audiences; these are:
•Preferred – audiences who prefer the form of media (most
likely target audience)
•Negotiated – audiences who are able to consume the media
but are not the target audience
•Oppositional – audiences that the media is not aimed at are
will not enjoy

My film will appeal to preferred audiences as they are
accustom to this genre and style and will appreciate the film.
This film may also appeal to negotiated audiences as they
may start to enjoy the style and slowly become part of the
target audience.
I would like to keep my film poster quite simplistic and true to the horror
genre.
I have decided for a simplistic design simply to represent that the film
doesn’t feature major special effects (just editing and some effects).

The only worlds on my poster would be the title of the film and would be in a
red font with the effect of blood dripping.

The background colour would be the green night vision filming colour. This
will help the font contrast.
The magazine that would feature my film would be a free magazine that
comes with a newspaper or mainstream magazine.
The magazine would not have any free gifts as it is a free gift itself.
The main point of this magazine is to publicise small independent films as
these sort of films never get publicised to an audience as much as large
blockbusters do.
The main contents of the magazine would be small budget independent films
and also a small section on small bands, this is because not only is the
magazines main objective to publicise small and unknown films/groups but
small bands may do music for films to get known so the topics relate.
The name for my magazine will be ‘RELEASED’
