14 April 2011 Twilight Tattoo Ceremony- Ft Stewart Cottrell Field at 1800
                                                HISTORY of a Twilight Tattoo:
“Twilight Tattoo” is a time-honored tradition that blends the precision and discipline of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old
Guard) with the orchestral sounds of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”

The history of Twilight Tattoo began more than 300 years ago as British troops were summoned from the warmth and hospitality of
local pubs by a bugle and drum call to return to the barracks. The familiar tune told tavern owners “doe den tap toe,” or “time to turn
off the taps.” The troops knew the call to mean “taps off,” and minutes later they were back in their tents.

The modern-day call is known as “Tattoo” and during basic training the call signals the time to quiet down and hit the bunks. For the
U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW), the call serves as a tribute dedicated to the vitality of our nation and to the
sacrifices of those who forged America into the land of the free and the home of the brave. It is for our forefathers and fellow
Americans that MDW proudly presents “Twilight Tattoo.”

The U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW) Twilight Tattoo can trace its own history back to the years before World War
II. At that time, on the grounds of Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., the 3rd Cavalry Regiment held military shows during the winter
months. The Military District of Washington revived the traditional show in 1961 to showcase the talents of its ceremonial units.

As Twilight Tattoo grew in popularity, the Army adapted the show, its location and the time of year it was performed to fit the
growing needs of the American people. Settling on performances in Washington, D.C., throughout the summer months, has allowed
for thousands of audience members to experience the ceremony and pageantry of the United States Army.

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will perform at Walker Field, which adjoins the site of the egg hunt, at Bennett Sports Complex.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 1400 and close at 1600. The Lt. Dan Band covers everything from Stevie Wonder and Jimi
Hendrix classics to contemporary songs by Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence, Beyonce, Lonestar, the Zac Brown Band and more,
including tunes from the 40's big band era. As a long-time supporter of the U.S. military, Sinise was awarded the 2008 Presidential
Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian honor.
                                                   About the Lt. Dan Band:
Acclaimed actor and USO supporter Gary Sinise is crisscrossing the nation with his group the Lt. Dan Band as part of a USO tour
sponsored by TriWest Healthcare Alliance.
In February of 2004, The Lt. Dan Band hit the road on their first over-seas USO tour to Korea, Singapore and Diego Garcia. Since that
first overseas tour, Gary and the band have played an average of 30-40 shows per year with a good 75% of those shows for USO,
charities or benefits.
As Gary began visiting troops around the world, people (even little kids) who didn't know him as Gary Sinise, the actor, would
recognize him as “Lt. Dan” from the “Forrest Gump” film. Those in the military also seem to identify strongly with the character. And
so the name for his group was an easy choice: Lt. Dan Band!
His current concert series kicked off with a show at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay and U.S. Army Base Schofield Barracks
in Hawaii, 11- 12 Feb. The band was scheduled to perform at Forsyth Park in Savannah on 22 April.

The familiar tune told tavern owners “doe den tap toe,” or “time to turn off the taps.” The troops knew the call to mean “taps off,” and minutes later they were back in their tents. The modern-day call is known as “Tattoo” and during basic training the call signals the time to quiet down and hit the bunks. For the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW), the call serves as a tribute dedicated to the vitality of our nation and to the sacrifices of those who forged America into the land of the free and the home of the brave. It is for our forefathers and fellow Americans that MDW proudly presents “Twilight Tattoo.” The U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW) Twilight Tattoo can trace its own history back to the years before World War II. At that time, on the grounds of Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., the 3rd Cavalry Regiment held military shows during the winter months. The Military District of Washington revived the traditional show in 1961 to showcase the talents of its ceremonial units. As Twilight Tattoo grew in popularity, the Army adapted the show, its location and the time of year it was performed to fit the growing needs of the American people. Settling on performances in Washington, D.C., throughout the summer months, has allowed for thousands of audience members to experience the ceremony and pageantry of the United States Army.

Dan Band Concert: Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will perform at Walker Field, which adjoins the site of the egg hunt, at Bennett Sports Complex. The concert is scheduled to begin at 1400 and close at 1600. The Lt. Dan Band covers everything from Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix classics to contemporary songs by Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence, Beyonce, Lonestar, the Zac Brown Band and more, including tunes from the 40's big band era. As a long-time supporter of the U.S. military, Sinise was awarded the 2008 Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian honor. About the Lt. Dan Band: Acclaimed actor and USO supporter Gary Sinise is crisscrossing the nation with his group the Lt. Dan Band as part of a USO tour sponsored by TriWest Healthcare Alliance. In February of 2004, The Lt. Dan Band hit the road on their first over-seas USO tour to Korea, Singapore and Diego Garcia. Since that first overseas tour, Gary and the band have played an average of 30-40 shows per year with a good 75% of those shows for USO, charities or benefits. As Gary began visiting troops around the world, people (even little kids) who didn't know him as Gary Sinise, the actor, would recognize him as “Lt. Dan” from the “Forrest Gump” film. Those in the military also seem to identify strongly with the character. And so the name for his group was an easy choice: Lt. Dan Band! His current concert series kicked off with a show at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay and U.S. Army Base Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, 11- 12 Feb. The band was scheduled to perform at Forsyth Park in Savannah on 22 April. 24 April, Easter Brunch 10:30 – 13:30 at the Hunter Club Come join us for our famous breakfast items, Omelets made to order, brown sugar glazed baked ham, citrus glazed Cornish hens, beef burgundy with pearl onions, sweet potato soufflé, fresh green beans almandine, roasted rosemary new bliss potatoes, roasted corn with sweet peppers, peach and cheese crepes, salad station., chocolate fountain, dessert station, and mimosas.
