OBJECTIVE : Seeking an I.T. position with a dynamic, growth oriented
company that can utilize my experience and strong sense of
responsibility. I work with a strong sense of urgency without
jeopardizing quality.
EXPERIENCE :
GROCER'S SUPPLY COMPANY - Houston, Texas 07/83 - Present
It isn't easy to put dates to each position I have held over 30
years, but wanted to highlight the positions to show growth path and
explain the things I have learned working with the various teams here
at Grocer's. I have also done contract work for Cingular Wireless
and Entex Gas company during some of those years. I can supply
details of that work as well if desired.
Warehouse Selector –
This is where I started with the company. Within a short period of
time, I was selecting product at about 20 cases an hour faster than
the company requirements. When I was switched to our grocery
selection instead of the frozen area, my previous supervisor would
call and request to borrow me, where he would give me an entire truck
to load before returning me to the grocery side.
Printer Operations –
This was my next position with the company. I worked the evening
shift and was responsible for all the printing for that location.
This included all billing documents, warehouse reporting, accounting
reports, etc. Worked on a wide variety of printers, but most of the
model numbers elude me now.
Ordering Department –
This was my move to the main office. This department took in all
grocery orders from our customers. It involved receiving orders
various ways such as telxon machines, call in orders to sales
department, etc. I was here long enough to be able to assist when we
changed the equipment and software we used to collect our customer’s
orders. Although the employee with the least amount of years in the
department, I took full ownership of moving that process forward with
as few incidents as possible.
2. Computer Operator –
Worked on our mainframe as a computer operator. When I started this
position we were still using punch cards, but we saw a lot of changes
over the years for this area. One area I contributed to as we
developed was to design instructions and documentation when we
started using P.C.'s to communicate to the mainframe for different
purposes. My co-workers politely labelled it the Jim O. book.
Operations Supervisor –
Here is where I supervised a great crew of workers. We were
responsible for all phases of computer operations supporting eight
remote sites and also the main warehouse. This included job
processing, report printing, billing, accounting and any other
functions on our mainframe, AS400, P.C.'s and various servers. A
large degree of my problem resolution experience was developed during
this time. During this period I was also drafted/volunteered to
become the company's representative member of the Grocer's Supply
Safety Committee for all office personnel.
Production Control –
This is where I began working day shift with Grocer's. It is also
where the company started struggling with giving me titles to fit my
job description. Not being negative, it was just a reality. We had
purchased a new product called Control-M from a company known as New
Dimensions. It was to be used to automate our batch scheduling.
They gave me the books and told me to get it off the ground. I was
able to start with one of our smaller divisions and then get our
entire mainframe batch automated and also some of the enterprise
processes as well. The product also offered a monitoring tool as
part of the suite and it was called Control-O. Set up this product
as well. Next we added Control-R which was the automated restart of
batch processing during failures. We are still using this product,
but some of the names have changed and it is now owned by BMC.
3. Technical Support –
Although I was still supporting the BMC products above, I was then
placed in the Technical Support department and began assisting that
area with some DASD development and also user security. Was sent for
training using SMS/HSM for the DASD work and later sent for RACF
training for the mainframe user security. While working for this
department we also expanded our BMC product called Control-M/EM to
give us automated scheduling on the server level by placing agents on
the working boxes. It was then my responsibility to set up job
processing for each server. This involved setting up scripts, bat
files, firewatchers, etc. to automate several manual process, saving
time and money for the company. Also during this time with the
technical support team I was able to become very familiar with
mainframe JCL and even wrote some to assist in different needs we had
for our area. Next I started working with a product called Vista Plus
Content Management. A co-worker got this product off the ground, but
I eventually became secondary support for it. Vista Plus is a report
management software and my role continues to be to support it,
including all maintenance such as user/report set up. Also support
issues related to the product.
Production Control –
This title comes back up, but now means continuing to set jobs up on
our Conrol-M product, but also taking over our Change Control
process. During this time I was able to redevelop this process and
we also had an in-house process written to assist with change control
movement which is still used today. Also during this period I was
given the additional position of DAR which stands for Designated Area
Representative. This relates again to safety of employees during
critical times such as fire.
Q/A Analyst Manager –
This is my current position. It started off as an interim position,
but now I am solely responsible for Q/A. I do have a backup support
person in training, as well as others training on some of my other
duties mentioned above. My role was actually going to change again
shortly before we were purchased by a company called C&S. We were
working on a product called HP Application Lifecyle Management as the
company plans were to go to SAP. I did get a good chance to learn the
product and we had started laying out our test plans, but then
decisions were altered. C&S is going to use our site as a hub and we
have been moving in that direction ever since. I am currently
answering to the application development manager and we are working
on several projects as part of our acquisition. One major project
recently finished was opening a new warehouse in Dallas Texas. My
roles in that included testing coordination, some jcl and doclib
creation, all the batch scheduling creation, file creations for both
testing and production, moving the process through our change control
landscape and into production and any other assistance needed.
