The Seville Cathedral is formally known as Cathedral of St Mary of the See. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest church in the world. It was in Seville that the Spanish planned their exploration and the administration of The New World.

It covered the bell tower with lace-like stone work.

By the 16 th Century Spain became the superpower of the time, controlling much of the Americas, the Low Countries, Central Europe and the Philippines. All the riches of the Americas were used to finance Spanish wars in Europe and to build Cathedrals. Seville was the centre of Spanish trades with the Americas. By the 17the Century, Spain managed to bankrupt its treasury.

4. The Cathedral was built on the site of the Great Mosque in Seville. The Giralda Tower was changed from a minaret into a bell tower. Construction began in 1402. It took a century to complete.
