Four Collaborative Learning
Techniques using Blackboard
Class glossary
Create a wiki that all members of the class can edit
Post important vocabulary words from content
Have students add additional words
Request that students create definitions based on their
learning
Students create and revise textual definitions
Annotate text with captured audio or video
Visit the glossary to check for understanding
Peer Review
Assign a project, written or otherwise, to your class
Create a blog associated with the project
Have students create post of their draft, as text or an
attachment
Require each student to provide feedback on a number of
other drafts
To facilitate, you may wish to create peer review groups using
the Manage Group tool
Group Project
Assign a project to your class that will be completed as a
group
As students enroll in groups, create virtual versions in
Blackboard using the Manage Groups tool
Create a wiki for each group
Request that groups use the wiki to showcase their final
product
Subpages for the various components of assignment
Embedded video and audio demonstrations
Uploaded or embedded presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote)
Links to outside resources
Study Review
In preparation for an exam, create a study area in Blackboard
Depending on your preference, use a blog, wiki, or discussion
Discussion Board
Create a thread for each major theme or topic, posed as a
question, and have students discuss possible answers

Four ways to collaborate in blackboard

Class glossary Create a wiki that all members of the class can edit Post important vocabulary words from content Have students add additional words Request that students create definitions based on their learning Students create and revise textual definitions Annotate text with captured audio or video Visit the glossary to check for understanding
  • 3. Peer Review Assign a project, written or otherwise, to your class Create a blog associated with the project Have students create post of their draft, as text or an attachment Require each student to provide feedback on a number of other drafts To facilitate, you may wish to create peer review groups using the Manage Group tool
  • 4. Group Project Assign a project to your class that will be completed as a group As students enroll in groups, create virtual versions in Blackboard using the Manage Groups tool Create a wiki for each group Request that groups use the wiki to showcase their final product Subpages for the various components of assignment Embedded video and audio demonstrations Uploaded or embedded presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote) Links to outside resources

Study Review In preparation for an exam, create a study area in Blackboard Depending on your preference, use a blog, wiki, or discussion Discussion Board Create a thread for each major theme or topic, posed as a question, and have students discuss possible answers Wiki Create a wiki where students can post and revise excerpts of class notes, supplemental materials, videos, audio, etc. Blog Create a blog for each major theme or topic and assign groups or individuals create expert posts on a particular theme/topic
