2. WHAT IS STUDENT GOVERNMENT?
Our Mission:
1. To serve as representation of all GCC students and their
collective interests
2. To promote the cultural, educational, and social needs of
entire campus community
3. To work closely with the college administration and staff to
ensure that the voice of the student body is heard
3. THE ROLE OF STUDENT
GOVERNMENT
• Voice of the general student body
• The stepping stone between the students and administration,
bringing concerns to the forefront
• Monthly meetings: currently held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday
of every month
4. ROLE OF SENATORS
• Approve the annual SGA budget
• Approve changes to the SGA Constitution
• Approve all new SGA committees and/or clubs
• Meet at least 2x a month
• Attend various committees for the purpose of serving their
constituents better
6. ROLES OF SGA OFFICERS
President: Acts as a spokesperson of the Student Government.
Represents SGA as a whole in every way.
Vice President: Manages all committee assignments
Secretary: Keeps the minutes and does the agenda for each
meeting
Student Trustee: Sits on the Board of Trustees and makes a report
back to Student Government about those topics that are discussed
Treasurer: Presents the annual budget to both GCCA and the Board
of Trustees
8. CAMPUS CENTERS
• We have an off-campus representative that reports to student
government about our campus centers
• This representative sends out our Student Government
meeting minutes to all campus centers
• The representative makes sure all campus centers are
represented at Lunch Bunch
9. CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD
(CAB)
• Plans fun events around the school
• Membership is open to anyone that wants to plan &
volunteer
• Opportunities to attend fun conferences
• Decide who/what entertainment to bring to GCC
10. LUNCH BUNCH
• All clubs meet to share and have a free lunch once a month
• Networking experience to co-sponsor events and find out
what other clubs are doing
• Represents the diversity of students at GCC
11. CLUBS @ GCC
• Our 50+ clubs and organizations plan hundreds of events for
students each year
• Academic – Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, Criminal
Justice, Education, Nursing, DECA
• Other clubs represent diversity of GCC students – African-American
Student Union, Gay Straight Alliance, Christian Students United

12. HOW STUDENTS ARE SELECTED
• The SGA has an election process, but in the absence of having
people wanting to run, the SGA has instructed Cliff Scutella,
the Director of Student Activities, to recruit members from our
faculty and staff and then have the students elect their
leadership from within.
13. AGENDA SO FAR
New Business: October 13th & 27th
• Election of Officers – The roles of President, Vice President and
Secretary were nominated
• CineMagic Club – Club request that was approved, regarding
students who wish to share their appreciation for cinema, @
student club fair
• Literary Club changed name to “Creative Writing Club” – based
on student interest in creative writing rather than book review
• Stand by Me Club – Club that wants to awaken and inspire staff
and students to recognize GCC’s men of color that have braved
social injustice
