1. Resume’ of Composer Jamie Searle
1995 – 2005 Self-Taught Guitarist/Songwriter/Voice
Within this time I studied Rock/Pop/Folk. Simple form songs in the vain of Nirvana,
The Beatles, Michael Jackson & The Motown/Sun Records catalogue. I played in
fledgling high school projects and later met other budding musicians who I formed a
group with that would be my main focus from 2003 – 2008. That group was It’s Over
and I was the main songwriter and creative visionary. We put out 3 EP’s and 2 Albums
that ranged from punk rock, pop, country, circus cabaret, funk and indie.
Many years of touring across the Midwest including 2 South by Southwest (SXSW) in
2007 & 2008 with pop/rock band It’s Over as well as Chicago, Des Moines, Springfield,
Warrensburg, Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Lincoln, Columbia, & St. Louis. I won’t list
them all but I would bet over 200 shows from 2004 – 2008. Many solo appearances
including a year at diner Georgie Porgie’s for 3 hours ever Sunday morning.
2006 – 2012 Formal Music Studies Began
I had become very frustrated with my ideas becoming bigger and more specific but
never being reached due to my lack of traditional musical training. I attended Johnson
County Community College and Longview Community College where I studied music
theory, ear training, sight singing, guitar, piano, voice, & 1 semester of trumpet.
Finally, I was able to make the transition to full-time musician by teaching guitar full-
time at Southland Conservatory of Music, Mobile Music, & through my own studio.
In the fall of 2007 I decided to audition for the UMKC Composition Dept. and upon
acceptance in the Spring of 2008, I focused on theory, guitar performance, and
musicology/anthropology.
After much deliberation, I decided to quit my band after touring, recording 3 EP’s & 2
2. albums, receiving awards and newspaper spreads to immerse myself in a world that
would teach me to communicate with extreme clarity the scope of my ideas. I produced
a prolific amount of work within that time from solo cello, string quartet, jazz band,
and my first of many successful attempts to create a song, “In My Sights” that defies
traditional definition & was recorded live in its infancy in 2010 at UMKC’s White Hall.
Also in 2008 I began my residency as guitarist in the 8:30 Mass at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church under the direction of Dr. Ken Walker. This led to many opportunities to
music direct and co-direct camps for children under Horizon Arts that granted under-
privileged children the opportunity to an arts education.
In May of 2011 I formed MY BROTHERS & SISTERS, which was the beginning of
my conceptual march towards fusing genres together by forming the 14 piece urban
orchestra from the classical, gospel, pop, & jazz worlds. I transcribed a ton of music by
ear to study famous pop arrangements that are not available in the world because they
were never published; everything from Nina Simone to Destiny’s Child.
Finally in 2012 I began my pre-production process to begin recording my debut album
with this project. Months of arrangement editing & recording followed as well as
preparation for final recording by performing with a stripped down version of the
project so that I could concentrate on the rhythm section and brass more until finally
in August I entered Soundworks Studios to begin recording.
That same year I served as guitarist for Faith City Gospel Church under the music
direction of Drew Pickens & Cortez Vaughn for a brief time as well & studied with
organist Charlotte Brown at Redemption C.O.G.I.C. during their annual YGMC
(Youth Gospel Ministry Concert).

2013 – Present
I quickly realized that this project was going to cost much more money than I had so I
sold all of my belongings, secretly began living in an office building, and created a
successfully funded kickstarter. A year later I entered Element studios to begin mixing
and had my album completed on January 1
st
, 2014. Design elements were nearly all
conceived by myself with and crafted by several different artists. The release of the
album was that April.
In the summer of 2013 I met Stephonne Singleton while making my record and had a
very serendipitous opportunity to produce a single for him in 2 days. In that time I
arranged horns, strings, wrote the form, played guitar, keys, bass, and got all the
musicians inside of West End Studios to record the rhythm and orchestral elements.
This opportunity, besides creating a great tune, led me to begin producing artists and
creating arrangements for others. Since then, I have produced nearly a dozen pieces
that features the best elements and styles of vocalists Stephonne Singleton, Christian
Robinson, & Calvin Arsenia.
2013 also provided me with a rare opportunity to music direct an all-Spanish mass in
the impoverished area of Kansas City, Kansas at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for 1
year. Before I left St. Michael’s in the Fall of 2014, I was able to establish and direct
the Lion Heart Youth Symphony.
August of 2014 I decided to go full into multi-media by combining my love of film
music & Halloween. The music of Danny Elfman had always had a deep impact on me
and would lead me to transcribe 6 iconic pieces of music including the main titles of
Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands with the arrangement help of my good friend
and colleague Brittany Slaughter. I expanded MY BROTHERS & SISTERS to a 20-
piece orchestra to handle the symphonic workload as well as had clips of the films
4. projected behind us as we performed them in Tim Burton costumes. It was an
incredible effort given 2 ½ months to get everything together. A small but conceptually
vital portion of this performance is during the “Ice Dance” from Edward Scissorhands.
The addition of artificial snow blown by large industrial fans at the point in the scene
where the snow is flying from the ice sculpture suddenly blurred the 4
th
wall, the world
of the performance, to the world of the experienced; a place where the audience
becomes part of the movie.
This would become what it is now an annual event called MACABRE. This year the
scope increased 20 fold, as more musicians were involved, the 4th wall becoming ever
blurred, illusion and drama became more important, projections became less about
using the exact scenes that match the music from the films and more about collage,
actors, modern dancers from City In Motion as well as aerial fabric artists, costumes
including a near exact replica of the Diva Plavalaguna from the 5
th
Element, a
showcase of artists that I have produced, a DJ playing mash-ups of dance music, and
orchestrated ghost stories. All of this was broadcast through KKFI. The theatrical
elements had really come together to produce something still in its infancy yet
compelling. Next year I am teaming up with Amber Bequeath of Full Moon
Productions to go even bigger and creating a space down in the West Bottoms near the
famous haunted houses.
Also in 2015 I began working with Journalist and Producer Matt Hodapp on his new
Podcast project “Paris Of The Plains,” who is currently a Charlotte Street Artist in
Residency. Currently I have made countless original music compositions for the
podcast that range in emotion and style. Sometime after the 1
st
of the year I will begin
producing my own show dedicated to the vast array of music in Kansas City. Matt
approached me to do the additional program to Paris of The Plains because I am
knowledgeable of the musicians, venues, struggles & opportunities in just about every
music community in Kansas City. It will be interview based geared to critique and
addressing multi-dimensional issues such as racial/genre division, venue and musician
relationship, technical critique and education, as well as artistic revues and the future
of music making and performance.
Up ahead is Stephonne Singleton’s full-length album currently underway as well as a
lot of research and development into 3-D, Virtual Reality, Surround Sound Effects, as
5. well as working with City In Motion on a Spring release of an 8 movement conceptual
piece based on Chakras. Working with dance and multi-media is of vast importance to
my artistic development as well as film and theatre work.

* A Note on Running a 14-piece Orchestra
I cannot begin to illustrate the invaluable education I’ve received by forming MY BROTHERS &
SISTERS: Leadership, humility, organization, accountability, time management, hiring, firing, and
inspiring musicians from all walks of life. It has been a tremendous exercise in emotional and
financial endurance. I’ve walked a tight rope for 4 years balancing art and commerce. My faith in my
vision coupled with my tenacity and drive for excellence has lifted me and my crew above obstacles
that I was told were impossible.
