To whom it may concern:
I write this letter to recommend Jamie Casuccio for a position as a secondary school teacher in
mathematics. Jamie has worked under my direct supervision as a peer tutor in the Learning
Commons since September of 2012, during which time she has proven herself again and again
to be an effective and much sought-after peer educator.
As a peer tutor, Jamie has always been in high demand with 694 different appointments to date
(as a side note, this equates to approximately 500 hours of one-on-one or small group work with
fellow college students, experience that peer tutors over the years have reported is directly
transferrable to the grade 6-12 classroom). She develops a loyal following every semester.
Perhaps it's the math jokes she writes on the board in her workspace, but I'm more convinced
it's her enthusiasm for math and learning that brings the students back. Over the years she has
supported students in all levels of Math courses, but especially in the Calculus sequence and
Biostats. Her tutorials are models of interactive learning: students always have a pencil in hand
or are writing at the whiteboard. Additionally, Jamie has tutored writing, Italian, and the QU
seminar series, showing that her ability to help fellow students succeed in the broad range of a
liberal education.
In anonymous surveys, Jamie consistently scores at the highest levels and garners effusive
praise from her tutees. One student wrote of Jamie, "My tutor and I have developed a great
relationship and it encourages me to do great." Another wrote that "She was very helpful and
pushed me in the right direction for writing my paper.'" In the most recent semester with
available student feedback, one tutee was even more effusive: "Jamie is the best tutor I've ever
had. She is so kind and patient, and so consistent with helping me. I wouldn't have gotten this
far without her. Huge role model." These statements are typical of the response that students
give Jamie. To observe her in a tutorial is to see someone who can engender enthusiasm,
develop skills, and build confidence in her students.
To conclude, I give Jamie Casuccio my highest possible recommendation as an educator at the
secondary level. She merits your full attention if you are searching for an outstanding educator
who will delight and enrich your students. If you have any questions, 1 welcome them either by
phone or e-mail.
Sincerely,
