Steps
1. Powerupand logintothe virtual machine thatisusedto generate the linkedclones
a. There me be some sluggishnessatfirstasit runsa SophosAnti-VirusScan
b. Make sure it isnot inan OU that installsKACE
2. CheckinVMWare that the machine hasthe correct versionof VMWare tools(currently
8.6.15.44.134)
3. Checkthat youhave the correctversionof VMware View Agent(currently5.0.1.640055)
a. Confirmthatthishas beendone (especiallythe wssm.exe) -

a. Install KACEmanually –do not putin an OU that installsKACE

7. Update Versiondocumentonthe image
a. Rename C:<unitname>Versionyyyy-mm-dd.txttothe latestdate
b. Addlines(atthe top) notingwhat’snew
8. Log in as the built-inlocal administrator(youmayneedtoenable the account)
9. Move machine toa higherOU, so KACEdoesnotreinstall
10. Uninstall the KACEagent(alsodelete off KACEserver)
11. Cleanupthe computerasmuch as possible
a. Delete all filesin
i. c:windowstemp
ii. c:temp
iii. Downloads
iv. c:SWsetup
v. C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalTemp
b. Remove all otheruserprofiles
c. Delete all restore points
d. Run DiskCleanupandcleanupSystemFiles
12. Put the VMware Agentinthe right state (thisisveryimportanttomake VDI composingwork)
a. Shutdownthe virtual PC(notrestart)
b. Setthe RAMto 3GB
c. Setthe CPUsto 1
d. Make sure that VMware has labeledthe guestOScorrectly
e. Powerbackon again
f. Watch Resource VMWare Performance tab and wait. CPU, diskandnetworkshouldbe
veryquiet. Once itis,shut downagain.
13. Take a VMware snapshotcalled somethinglike“DOV-TRN (2016-06-22)”
14. In VMware ViewAdministrator
a. Recompose usingthe new snapshot andchange the defaultimage fornew desktops
b. Wait. Thiscouldtake overan hour. There shouldbe motion inboththe vSphere andin
the pool inventory
c. Whenthe status of the desktops inVMware View Administratorgoesto“Available”,
recomposingiscomplete
15. Log intoa desktopthrougheitheraVMware HorizonClientora VDI clienttoensure
functionality. Checkthatthe usersessionisallocatedinthe pool
16. Delete oldersnapshotsfrom the virtual machine thatisusedtogenerate the linkedclones
