Definition Hotel is defined by British law as a place where a bonafide guest receives food and shelter, provided he is in a position to pay for it and is in a receivable condition.
History Of Hotel Industry Hotels have a very long history, but not as we know today, way back in the 6thcentury BC when the first inn in and around the city of London began to develop. The first catered to travelers and provided them with a mere roof to stay under. This condition of the inns prevailed for a long time, until the industrial revolution in England, which brought about new ideas and progress in the business at inn keeping. The invention of the steam engine made traveling even more prominent. Which had to more and more people traveling not only for business but also for leisure reasons. This lead to the actual development of the hotel industry as we know it today.
Introduction to the Hotel Industry A Hotel must provide food and lodging to a traveller on payment and in turn the right to refuse if the traveller is drunk,disorderly,un kempt or is not in a position to pay for services. Hotel today not only cater to the basic needs of the guest like food and shelter provide much more than that, like personalized services etc. Hotels today are a “Home away from home”.
Hotel Industry A Hotel is an establishment whose primary business is providing lodging facilities for the general public and which furnishes one or more of the following services: Food and Beverage Services. Room Attendant Services. Laundry Services. Use of Furniture and Fixtures. Safety and Security to guest and his Belongings.
Classification of Hotel Hotel can be classified into different categories or classes, based on their operational criteria. For example the type of accommodation they provide, location of the property, type of services provided, facilities given and the clientele they cater to can help categories hotels today…

Level Of Services World-class services: They target top business executives and provide service s that cater to needs of such people like lap tops in the rooms, business center, sectarian services. Mid range services: They appeal to the larger segment of traveling public [tourist]. The services provided by the hotel are moderate and sufficient to budgeted travelers.  
Ownership And Affiliation Independent hotels: They have no application with other properties. They have their own management and are single properties with one owner. Chain Hotel They impose certain minimum standards, levels of service, policies and procedures to be followed by their entire establishment. Chain hotels usually have corporate offices that monitor all their properties and one management runs these properties. That is all the hotels under the chain are completely owned and run by the chain itself.
Ownership And Affiliation Franchisee hotels The franchisee grants the entities, the right to conduct business provided they follow the established pattern of the franchisee, maintains their standards, levels of service, practice their policies and procedures.

History Of Leela Group Founded in 1957 by Capt. C.P. Krishnan Nair, the Rs.450 crore Leela Group is engaged in the business of ready-made garments and luxury hotels and resorts. The company was founded by Captain C.P. Krishnan Nair. Capt. Nair served in the Indian National Army under Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He helped his father-in-law in the latter's garment export business. In 1970, the company launched its ready-made garments unit and is today, India’s premier export house. Time Line Of Leela Group Of Hotels While visiting various countries, he realized the need for a luxury hotel chain in India that could measure up to international standards. In 1988, he went ahead and launched the first hotel in Mumbai as Hotel Leela. The group has then gone ahead to develop fine hotels across the other cities. Time Line Of Leela Group Of Hotels Recently in 2001 Capt. Nair fulfilled his longstanding dream of constructing a palace hotel in the garden city of Bangalore. The Leela Palace Kempinski, Bangalore is built in art deco style recreating the grandeur of The Mysore Maharajas Palace. It is set amidst 8 acres of landscaped garden and waterfalls. It is a palace with the heart of a modern hotel. Its 254 rooms are well furnished and are befitting royalty. The Leela Kovalam is Kerala’s largest resort, built on a rock face cradled between two wide sweeping beaches with a stunning view of the famous Kovalam coastline.
Today Today Leela Lace has 20 factories with state of the art equipment – 10 in Bangalore, 5 in Chennai and 5 in Mumbai, with an annual turnover of US$ 75 million. It is Leela Lace Ltd., the parent company, which is the promoter of Hotel Leela venture Ltd.

Introduction To Accor Group of Hotels Accor is a French Multi National Corporation, part of the CAC 40 index, operating in nearly 100 countries. Headquartered in Courcouronnes,Essonne, France, near Evry. Accor runs a hotels branch (Accor Hospitality) and formerly ran a corporate services firm (Accor Services). Accor Hospitality, the Accor hotels branch, has more than 4,000 hotels worldwide, ranging from economy to luxury. Through Accor Services, Accor also sold service vouchers to over 430,000 companies and institutions and 30 million users in 40 countries. The company demerged its Accor Services unit in 2010 under the name Edenred.[
History In the 1960s, the travel industry in France was booming, but many new hotels were concentrated only in major urban areas such as Paris. At the time, Paul Dubrule and Gérard Pélisson were both living in the United States, working for major computer firms. They went into business together, and in 1967, founded the SIEH (Société d'investissement et d'exploitation hôteliers) hotel group.
Time Line Of Accor Group  In 1974, they launched the Ibis brand with the opening of the Ibis Bordeaux. In 1975, SIEH acquired the Courtepaille and Mercure brands  In 1980,Acquired  Sofitel hotel brand, [43 hotels and two seawater spas].  In 1983, Creation of Accor, following the merger of Novotel SIEH Group and Jacques Borel International. 1990: Acquisition of the Motel 6 chain in the United States, comprising 550 properties. With its global brands, Accor becomes the world’s leading hotel group, in terms of properties directly owned or managed.
Time Line Of Accor Group 1997: Accor changes its corporate governance system. Jean-Marc Espalioux is appointed Chairman of the Management Board. The “Accor 2000” project is launched in a commitment to revitalizing growth and deploying breakthrough technology. Carlson Wagonlit Travel is created. Acquisition of a majority interest in SPIC, renamed Accor Casinos. 2001: Broader presence in the Chinese hotel market in partnership with Zenith Hotel International and Beijing Tourism Croup.  Accor becomes an official partner to the Australian Olympic Committee. 2005: Opening of the 4,000th hotel, the Novotel Madrid Sanchinarro in Spain. Colony Capital invests €1 billion in Accor and steps up the Group’s development.
Time Line Of Accor Group 2006: Accor changes its corporate governance system, from a Supervisory Board and Management Board to a Board of Directors, with Serge Weinberg as Chairman and Gilles Pélisson as Member of the Board — Chief Executive Officer. Accor divests most of its stake in ClubMed

  • 4. Definition Hotel is defined by British law as a place where a bonafide guest receives food and shelter, provided he is in a position to pay for it and is in a receivable condition.
  • 5. History Of Hotel Industry Hotels have a very long history, but not as we know today, way back in the 6thcentury BC when the first inn in and around the city of London began to develop. The first catered to travelers and provided them with a mere roof to stay under. This condition of the inns prevailed for a long time, until the industrial revolution in England, which brought about new ideas and progress in the business at inn keeping. The invention of the steam engine made traveling even more prominent. Which had to more and more people traveling not only for business but also for leisure reasons. This lead to the actual development of the hotel industry as we know it today.

Introduction to the Hotel Industry A Hotel must provide food and lodging to a traveller on payment and in turn the right to refuse if the traveller is drunk,disorderly,un kempt or is not in a position to pay for services. Hotel today not only cater to the basic needs of the guest like food and shelter provide much more than that, like personalized services etc. Hotels today are a “Home away from home”.

That is all the hotels under the chain are completely owned and run by the chain itself.
