JFHQ-NCR-MDW change of command set for June 24
Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington will relinquish command of Joint Force
Headquarters – National Capital Region and U.S. Military District of Washington to
Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan Monday, June 24.
The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. today on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base
Myer-Henderson Hall, in Conmy Hall.
Because of the many people attending this event, traffic will be congested all day
June 24 as select parking lots are blocked for visitors. These parking lots include the 3d
U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) regimental and caisson parking lots, the Fort Myer
Officers Club parking lot and part of Summerall Field parking lot. They will reopen at
5:30 p.m. June 24.

Fort Myer Post Exchange upgrades and hours
For the next 5 months the Fort Myer Exchange will be improving different areas of
the store. They are currently working on the relocation of your new Customer Service
area, PowerZone, electronic section, Sporting goods, hardware, linens and pet
department. This portion of the project will be completed by the end of the month. The
following are the hours of operation:
Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Patient Education Classes
Adopt a healthy lifestyle -- attend a nutrition education class at Rader Clinic. The
Healthy Heart class covers lifestyle changes to improve high cholesterol and high blood
pressure. Upcoming Healthy Heart Class is set for June 27 at 8:30 a.m. Classes are open
to all beneficiaries of the military health system, registration is required.

Twilight Tattoo performances run through August
Twilight Tattoo, Wednesdays through Aug. 28, is an hour-long military pageant
featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S.
Army Band "Pershing's Own." Experience a glimpse into American history through
performances by The U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from The U.S. Army Band Downrange,
The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and The U.S. Army Drill Team.
This performance is free and open to the public. Due to budget constraints, there will
not be bleacher seating for Twilight Tattoo this year. Grass seating is available, and we
recommend you bring a blanket or lawn chairs. For more information on group

Performances through June 26 will be located at Summerall Field on the Fort Myer
portion of the joint base. Performances from July 10 through Aug. 28 will be located at

Civilian employee needs annual leave assist
Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic employee Shirley McKenzie, pediatric nurse
practitioner at the clinic on the Fort Myer side of the joint base, is an approved recipient
of the civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to medical issues, she has
exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to McKenzie must fill out Form OPM 630A, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave
Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at
www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to McKenzie you must complete OPM 630B,

Camp
The SKIES program is offering Swimming Lessons this summer: Session 2 – June 24
to July 3; Session 3 – July 8 to 18; Session 4 – July 22 to Aug. 1; and Session 5 – Aug. 5

Youth Sports and Fitness is also offering one remaining session of British Soccer this
summer, August 19 to 23, from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5 to 16 yrs, and from 4 to 5:30
p.m. for ages 3 to 5 years. They are also offering one session of British Multi-Sports,

Semper Fit Intramural Softball
Get your team together and sign up for Semper Fit’s intramural softball league!
Games are played select weekdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting June 25 on the Joint Base
Myer-Henderson Hall softball field. League play is open to all authorized patrons, and
teams consist of 20 players plus a coach. The season ends in late August. Rosters are

Chesty’s 5k Fun Run
Chesty’s 5K Fun Run Wednesday, June 26 at 6:35 a.m., is still open for registration.
The fun run honors esteemed Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller,
who was born June 26, 1898. Registration is free, and tee-shirts will be given to the first
150 registered participants. The top three male and female finishers will receive medals

NEW – Fort Myer Thrift Shop new summer hours
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop will not accept consignments the week of June 25, will
close at the end of the day Thursday, June 27 and will re-open on July 9 with the
summer schedule - open Tuesday and Wednesday in July and August from 10 a.m. to
2:30 p.m., and closed on Thursdays. The Thrift Shop will not accept any consignments
of shoes and clothing during the summer month schedule. Sales are posted at

5. Wing Night at the Marine Club
The Marine Club services 50 cent wings Thursday, June 27, 4:30 to 6 p.m. The
Marine Club is open to all ranks, all services and Department of Defense identification

A motorcycle safety course will be held at Joint Base Andrews Friday, June 28 from

Pre-Independence Day Battalion Picnic
MCCS holds the H&S Battalion, HQMC, Henderson Hall Pre-Independence Day
Picnic Friday, June 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Marine Landing Deck behind the Marine
Club. The picnic is open to Department of Defense identification card holders and their
guests. The menu includes chicken drumsticks, hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie corndogs,
and Philly cheesesteaks, along with assorted side dishes, watermelon and funnel cakes.
The first 200 diners also receive a coupon for a free small ice cream from the food truck
Street Cream, which will be on site selling “urban ice cream flavors” with toppings. The
picnic is free to H&S Battalion, HQMC, Henderson Hall personnel and those battalion
active duty Family members; all others are welcome and pay $13 (children under 10 pay
$6) for all you care to eat. In the event of rain, the picnic will move indoors to the club

2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Qualifiers
Registration is now open for this year’s 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Team
Qualifiers. This year’s Army Ten Miler will be Sunday, Oct. 20. FMWR will be hosting
two ATM qualifiers this summer for active duty military only Friday, June 28 and
Friday, July 26. Each ATM qualifier will be a 10K race on Joint Base Myer-Henderson
Hall beginning at 6:35 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Building 414. On-line
registration will close on the Wednesday prior to each date. Race day registration will
be accepted on each date from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. inside the Fort Myer Fitness Center,
Building 414.

Gettysburg Trip
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that
ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Learn

NEW – Salute to the nation July 4 to be on Whipple Field
There will be a 50-gun salute to the nation at the stroke of 12 noon, Thursday, July 4
at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall’s Whipple Field by Soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry
Regiment (The Old Guard) Presidential Salute Battery.
According to Army regulation, "in commemoration of the Declaration of
Independence, a salute to the Union (50 guns) will be fired at 1200 hours on
Independence Day at all Army installations provided with the necessary equipment for
firing salutes." In 1810, the “National Salute” was defined by the War Department as
equal to the number of states in the Union. Today the Presidential Salute Battery fires 50
rounds at noon on Independence Day to celebrate the nation’s history. This 4th of July,
the Presidential Salute Battery will fire the 75mm blank ceremonial shell with 1.5
pounds of powder. The salute takes about four minutes total, so arrive early to view
this celebration of America.
The platoon is equipped with 10 M5, 75mm antitank cannons mounted on M6
howitzer carriages. Each gun weighs 5,775 pounds. The Presidential Salute Battery is
the only unit of its kind in the Army; its schedule includes more than 300 ceremonies
each year.

July Justice Amateur Boxing Tickets
Tickets for the July 13 “July Justice” Amateur Boxing event are on sale. The event
brings boxers from around Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland to the Corp.
Terry L. Smith Gymnasium on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall for an amateur boxing
show open to the public with government-issued photo identification. Food and
beverages will be available for sale. Tickets are $10 for adults, except active duty
personnel, who pay $7, and children under 10 years old who get in free. Tickets may be
purchased at the Semper Fit office in Building 29, Rm. 305, at the gym, and at the door.

Nominations are being accepted for motivated NCOs and above (first come first
serve—maximum of 30 individuals) to attend the level one High Intensity Tactical

L. Smith Gymnasium HITT Center. The Marine Corps’ HITT program is a
comprehensive combat-specific strength and conditioning program that is essential to a
Marine’s physical development, combat readiness, and resiliency. Program emphasis is
on key components with relation to superior speed, power, strength, flexibility,
endurance and overall combat readiness while reducing the likelihood of injury and
ensuring that all Marines are physically prepared for real-time combat/tactical

Golf Tournament
On Sept. 27 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Family and Morale, Welfare, and
Recreation will host the Inaugural SLICE of Summer Scramble golf tournament. The
tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston Golf Course. The tournament
format will be four person teams playing a best ball scramble. Awards will be given
based on the group or team’s overall score. There will also be special contests for
longest drive, closest to pin, longest putt and hole in one. Each person can register with
a buddy or as a team of four. Registration is $70 per person which includes green fees,
cart, range bucket, $8 gift certificate to pro shop and BBQ meal package.

Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training
scheduled
Threat Awareness and Reporting Program (TARP) annual training will be held at the
Town Hall building on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH at 10 a.m. July 17.
NOTE: This training is given by the 902nd MI Group Fort Belvoir and is mandatory

A Spouse meet and greet will be held at the JBM-HH Army Community Service

Smooth Move is an informal joint service brief for service members planning to PCS.

Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your baby

NEW – Home Alone: Child Safety Class
A Home Alone: Child Safety class will be held Tuesday, July 9 from 4 to 5 p.m.
Parents will receive information on the recommended guidelines for child supervision,
how to develop a safety plan, and how to begin the discussion about personal safety

NEW – Learn to Cope with Stress
Marine and Family Programs offers a 12-session evidence-based class on coping with
work and family stress by learning to develop and apply effective coping strategies to
deal with stressors. Topics include identifying stressors, deep breathing and muscle
relaxation, assertive communication, changing your self-talk, eating right and exercise
and developing a personal stress management plan. The sessions are open to active
duty personnel, family members and retirees. Dates for the workshops, in Bldg. 12’s

separation of their loved ones due to deployment or extended TDY.

traffic and parking
The JFHQ NCR-MDW Change of Command Ceremony is set for Monday, June 24 at
4 p.m. in Conmy Hall on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH. The following parking lots
will be closed until the event is concluded: Caisson Regimental, Officers Club and
Summerall Field parking lots. Expect an increase in traffic flow on Fort Myer at this
time.
