New – New Year holiday hours
Most offices on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1, a
federal holiday. Some military activities will have curtailed operations Tuesday, Dec.
31. This list is not all encompassing. Please check with the facility you wish to visit for
more details.

New – Plan to imbibe? Get a Sober Ride!
Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering the holiday SoberRide program
from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Jan. 1, 2014.
To get a free cab ride home (up to a $30 fare -- caller is responsible for cost over $30)
call 1-800-200-8294 (TAXI). AT&T customers may dial #WRAP from their wireless
phones. You must be 21 or older to use the SoberRide service. Important Note: All
requests for SoberRide service must be called to and dispatched from 1-800-200-8294.
Watch for a cab from the participating taxi company in the area from which you are
calling.
Calls must originate in the District of Columbia; Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William
and Eastern Loudoun Counties in Virginia; the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church,
Fairfax, Manassas and Manassas Park in Virginia; Montgomery and Prince George’s
Counties in Maryland; and the cities of Rockville, Bowie, College Park, Gaithersburg,
Greenbelt and Takoma Park in Maryland.

New – Think of safety during holiday season

New – 2014 guide books being delivered
New Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall guide books are being delivered today,
Monday, Dec. 30; bulk deliveries are being made to JBM-HH mail rooms and other
specific activities.

Room 116A.

New – Transition Readiness Seminar
A Transition Readiness Seminar for separating service members is held Monday,
Jan. 6 through Friday, Jan. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Building 29, Room 104 aboard the
Henderson Hall side of the joint base.

New – Time for gates, barrier maintenance
The periodic preventive maintenance work will be done on Joint Base MyerHenderson Hall gate bollards and pop-up barriers Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday, Jan. 7, 8 and 9 according to the following schedule:
Tuesday, Jan. 7 -- Fort Myer and Henderson Hall portions of Joint Base MyerHenderson Hall – morning - Henry Gate; afternoon - Gates 1 and 3, Henderson Hall
Wednesday, Jan. 8 – morning - Wright Gate; afternoon - Hatfield Gate
Thursday, Jan. 9 – on the Fort McNair side of the joint base – morning – Ceremonial
Gate; afternoon – 2nd Street Gate
Traffic disruption will be minimal during the work, but use caution when traveling
through the gates during this time.

New – Disabilities Transition Assistance Program (DTAP)
DTAP has a workshop that provides information on service-connected disabilities
from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8. This class will be held in Building 29, Room 103
aboard the Henderson Hall side of the joint base.

New – Marine Corps Exchange closing early Jan. 13
The MCX on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base, will close early for inventory
Monday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. they will reopen Jan. 14 at the regular time of 10 a.m.

Civilian employees need annual leave assistance
Rader Health Clinic employee Frank Housen, JBM-HH Directorate of Public Works
employees, Myrtle Bowen and Rich Richards, JFHQ-NCR/MDW employee DaShana
T. Adhanom, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security employee Shari
Dixon, and U.S. Army Force Management Support Agency employee Sandra Hooks
are approved recipients of the civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to
medical issues, they have exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to Housen, Bowen, Richards, Adhanom, Dixon and Hooks must fill out Form OPM
630A, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave
Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to Housen, Bowen, Richards, Adhanom, Dixon

Dining Facility announces 2014 meal rates
See the new 2014 Dining Facility Meal Rates as stipulated by Department of Defense

'Millennium Project' closes jogging trail
This project closed the jogging trail that runs along McNair Road between Marshall
Drive and the Old Post Chapel on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. The project which
began last week, includes the development of 27 acres of land for future burial space for
Arlington National Cemetery. The land was once part of Joint Base Myer-Henderson
Hall on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. Construction is on the land northeast of
McNair Road between Marshall Drive and the Old Post Chapel. The jogging trail will
be closed through the end of the project in Spring 2016; when the project is complete, a
new jogging path will be created.
The $82 million, two-and-a-half year project includes in-ground and above ground
burial locations, columbarium space, committal shelters and all necessary
infrastructure.

CIF closed Jan. 13-17
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Central Issue Facility, located in Building 313 on
the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be closed from Jan. 13-17 to meet its 100
percent inventory mission requirement for change of custodian PBO hand receipt.

Winter weather information
In the event of weather-related closures, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (Fort Myer,
Fort McNair, Henderson Hall) personnel follow the guidance of the Office of Personnel
Management (OPM). OPM determines the "open" or "closed" status for all government
agencies and installations located inside the Washington, D.C., beltway.
If you have a question about your duty status, contact your supervisor. Partner
organization personnel should inquire within the chain of command.

Tax Center needs volunteers
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Tax Center is looking for enthusiastic
volunteers to help staff this year’s Tax Center. The Tax Center will provide cost-free
federal and state income tax return preparation and e-filing for military personnel, their
families and other eligible clients throughout the 2014 tax season.
Volunteer tax preparers and volunteer administrative staff are needed to help make
this year’s Tax Center a successful operation.

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.
If your spouse is preparing to transition from the military -- retiring or ETSing, make
an appointment with ACAP.

Applications for Scholarships for Military Children available
Applications for the 2014 Scholarships Program are available at the commissary on
the Fort Myer side of the joint base and online at www.militaryscholar.org.
Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 28, 2014.
Packages must be hand-delivered or shipped via U.S. Postal Service or other delivery
methods, not emailed or faxed.
This year's award amount has risen to $2,000, and the program awards at least one
scholarship at each commissary with qualified applicants. Applicants should ensure
that they and their sponsor are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting
System (DEERS) database and have a military ID card.

Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area offers
child, spouse scholarships
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area provides
scholarships for children (high school students and college students) and spouses of U.
S. Army personnel. Funds for the scholarships are from the Fort Myer Thrift Shop.
Applications for the three programs must be mailed to the Thrift Shop by March 28,
2014.

There will be a class on cooperative parenting and divorce Monday, Jan. 13 from

TransParenting
This two-part seminar is designed to provide parents who are separated and or
divorced with the tools to ensure that they are able to continue supporting and
encouraging their children despite the breakup of the family unit. The process of
developing an effective co-parenting plan with your ex is challenging but essential to
healthy growth and development of young children. You must attend both sessions to
receive a certificate of completion. Class dates are Monday, Jan. 6 and 13 from 9 to 11
a.m. in the ACS classroom, Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base.

Stress Management
Participants will be given information on identifying stressors in their life and how to

Anger Management
This anger management class will be held Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. in

Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions management,
specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger and get resources on how to
recognize and manage the anger triggers in their own lives.

Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your baby

of the labor and delivery process, newborn care and baby-proofing your home will be
discussed. Upon completion of this class you will receive a bag of free baby care and

Missing the tools to survive in this world? In this 4-part series, you will learn how to

Traffic, Roads and Grounds
Road construction in Arlington through December
Roadway reconstruction on Columbia Pike from South Wakefield Drive to Four Mile
Run will continue through the middle of December, weather permitting. Work will
begin at the west side of the project and move east.

Get a Sober Ride! Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering the holiday SoberRide program from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Jan. 1, 2014. Civilian employees need annual leave assistance Rader Health Clinic employee Frank Housen, JBM-HH Directorate of Public Works employees, Myrtle Bowen and Rich Richards, JFHQ-NCR/MDW employee DaShana T. Adhanom, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security employee Shari Dixon, and U.S. Army Force Management Support Agency employee Sandra Hooks are approved recipients of the civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to medical issues, they have exhausted both sick and annual leave. 'Millennium Project' closes jogging trail This project closed the jogging trail that runs along McNair Road between Marshall Drive and the Old Post Chapel on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. The project which began last week, includes the development of 27 acres of land for future burial space for Arlington National Cemetery. The land was once part of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. Construction is on the land northeast of McNair Road between Marshall Drive and the Old Post Chapel. The jogging trail will be closed through the end of the project in Spring 2016; when the project is complete, a new jogging path will be created. The $82 million, two-and-a-half year project includes in-ground and above ground burial locations, columbarium space, committal shelters and all necessary infrastructure. Tax Center needs volunteers The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Tax Center is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help staff this year’s Tax Center. The Tax Center will provide cost-free federal and state income tax return preparation and e-filing for military personnel, their families and other eligible clients throughout the 2014 tax season.
  • 6. Volunteer tax preparers and volunteer administrative staff are needed to help make this year’s Tax Center a successful operation.
