separate subheadings, in chronological order. The “second run” items will be under the same

underneath the new items, also in chronological order. Because of this, some second run items

News
New -- Be aware of surroundings
The JBM-HH Directorate of Emergency Services warns folks to be alert to people and
surroundings. While pumping gas, lock car doors.
Local police departments are reporting thefts of valuables in cars while people get
fuel.
New -- Marine Club Oktoberfest
MCCS Henderson Hall holds Oktoberfest at the Marine Club Friday, Oct. 4. The
lunch buffet, served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature traditional German-style foods,
including Black Forest Cake for dessert and a free soda or non-alcoholic beer in a
souvenir cup. The evening social hour, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., will feature German-style
food, including warm soft pretzels and a variety of beverages.
Among the fun will be an arm-wrestling contest at 4:15 p.m. with give-a-ways. The
Oktoberfest is followed by the club’s monthly First Friday. All ranks, all services and all
Department of Defense identification card holders and their guests are welcome.

New -- Krazy Krieger 5K challenge
2. Start preparing now for the Krieger 5K challenge run Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m., at
the Fort Belvoir Oktoberfest Fest site on Fremont Field. This is a 5K (3.1 mile) race with
Oktoberfest inspired challenges and obstacles worthy of warriors (Kriegers).
The cost is $30 for registration to include day of race. Participants receive a T-shirt,
food ticket and beverage ticket for use at Oktoberfest.

New -- Recital to help dedicate new organ
Please mark your calendars for the inaugural recital on the new Rodgers 484 organ in
Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The
program will take place Sunday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. The concert will feature three
organists, a brass quintet and timpani, cello and harp. A wide variety of musical styles
and composers will be presented. With a reception following in the Fellowship Hall,
this is an event not to be missed!

Child, youth services looks to fiscal 2013 year close
In order to facilitate a successful closeout for fiscal year end, the Child, Youth and
School Age Services program will not collect fees Saturday, Sept. 28 through Monday,
Sept. 30. The collection database (CYMS and Webtrack) will be closed down during this
time.
To avoid any late fee, parents must pay by Friday, Sept. 27.

VA claims assistance available
If you are thinking of filing a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the
National Service Officer from American Veterans can assist you. The representative will
be in Building 29 in the Career Resource Management Center on the Henderson Hall
side of the joint base on the second and fourth Thursday of each month (Next meeting
is Sept. 26). For assistance, bring your service medical records, private physician’s
records, DD Form 214, marriage certificate, children’s birth certificates and copies of
your dependents’ social security cards. The National Service Officer will consult with
you about the condition for which you are considering filing a claim.

Hispanic Heritage month to be celebrated Oct. 2
Join friends and colleagues for the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration Wednesday,
Oct. 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Center, Building 405 on the Fort
Myer side of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
Special guest speaker is Ismael Martinez, director of the Office of Equal Employment
Opportunity for the National Archives and Records Administration.

Military Sport Rider course at Fort Belvoir Oct. 4
Fort Belvoir's Motorcycle Safety Foundation will hold its first Military Sport Rider
Course Friday, Oct. 4. Prior to this, military and civilian personnel had either to go to
Quantico or Fort Meade to complete the required training.
This Military Sport Rider Course is required for those who ride a sport bike and must
be completed within 12 months of completing the Basic Rider Course, in accordance
with Army Regulation 385-10.

Semper Fit intramural flag football
Registration is open for Semper Fit’s intramural football league. Games are played
select weekdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning in October on the Fort Myer field. League
play is open to all authorized patrons, and teams consist of 20 players plus a coach. The
season ends in late November. Rosters are available online at www.mccsHH.com and
in person at the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium and the Semper Fit Office in Building

Parents discover techniques to begin having discussion with teens about healthy
relationships and learn to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships Thursday, Oct.

EFMP respite care reimbursement program workshop
A workshop on the Exceptional Family Member Program Respite Care
Reimbursement program use and the changes that will be effective this October is
Thursday, Sept. 26, noon to 1 p.m., Building 12 on the Henderson Hall side of the joint
base, conference room.
This brief outlines the background, use, requirements, level of need and changes to
the respite care policy. The course is available via WebEx by request, as well as face-to-
face at Henderson Hall.

“Smooth Move” is an informal joint service briefing for service members planning to

Fuel station to close for inventory
The Transportation Motor Pool fueling station will close Friday, Sept. 27 at noon and
reopen Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6 a.m., for end of fiscal year inventory.
