SXSW: Leadership in the Innovation Age

  1. Can game-changing innovation flourish in a large successful firm? Can entrepreneurs thrive inside a large successful firm? Can they exist at all? This is Brad and my journey. A journey to a new kind of leadership. Leadership for the innovation age. I’ll quickly cover some things we’ve learned, then show four examples that show the ideas at work. Then Brad and I will do the best we can to answer your questions.
  2. It starts with why are we in business
  3. How does a company pick where to play?
  4. How do you find the big problem you can solve?
  5. Decisions are based on predictions. Predictions often of peoples’ behaviors.
  6. Change “position” to design. Change the color of the people to make them a bit more visible. Make the “$ trumpet”more acute. A little bigger on the right side…and very narrow on the left side so that at the left origin it’s just a single white line with no space or dollar signs. BTW, This looks really good.
  7. Don’t grey out the words…instead have them disappear as the “users” moves left. Leave the word “decision”…ie it will slide to the right, so it winds up to the right of final position of “users” Change “position” to “design” Remove the ampersand (&)
  8. Turn “The problem” into a build
  9. Only leaders can install the systems and the culture than enables new employees to run experiments…and have those decisions make the decisions. Leaders have to set the grand challenges that inspire teams to pioneer where no one has gone before.
