With more than 8500 members across Queensland, Queensland Law Society (QLS)
provides support to both the legal community and the public. Its responsibilities
lie in a number of areas, from the provision of education services to the profession,
regulating the profession and helping to protect the rights of individuals and
advise the community about the many benefits solicitors can provide. QLS needed
to integrate its financial, membership and insurance systems, as well as streamline
its financial processes. QLS was replacing its existing membership system which
proved the ideal time to integrate a new finance system which could easily
connect all moving parts to create a better, easier way to use its systems and
achieve business insights from this information.
As Anthony Walduck, Chief Financial Officer for Queensland Law Society explains:
“Our goals were to streamline our financial processes and improve reporting
capabilities to ensure we are effective, efficient and making the best financial
decisions. We also required a system that could integrate with our membership
and insurance systems without the need for overly complicated manual processes.”

QLS’ old financial system was tired, with an out-dated interface that made
processing difficult and inefficient. Microsoft Dynamics NAV proved an attractive
solution to QLS for its ability to offer a platform that could simplify financial
processes such as general ledger, accounts payable, billing and debt collecting,
budgeting and reporting.

As Elisabete Pousinho, Finance Manager for QLS, says: “Parts of our old financial
package had been custom built and as a result 'unusual' transactions were not
always easy to process. We were in need of a system that could streamline our
everyday financial activities in a reliable, quick and easy way. For example, our old
system required us to key in a lot of data, including reversals, and more complex
transactions required multiple steps and screens to navigate.”
Using Microsoft Dynamics NAV as a financial platform would not only streamline
these financial processes but also integrate their membership and insurance
systems, something their current system did not manage effectively. Improved
reporting capabilities were also needed to gain better insight into financials. Jet
Reports, combined with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, would give QLS a powerful, easy
to use reporting solution that could drill down into financial data from multiple
sources and create quick and easy financial reports.

Queensland Law Society’s financial system is now shipshape. It better reflects the
way the society wants to work, with all moving parts at their fingertips. As Anthony
Walduck concludes:
“Our new financial system is now connected with all necessary areas of the business
to ensure we can make the best financial decisions. It’s intuitive and easy to use,
the Windows environment is familiar to staff, financial processes such as general
ledger payments are now far easier to make, and journal importing is quick and
easy.
“Intergen have enhanced NAV to allow for transactions from the membership and
insurance systems to be verified and imported ready for processing which
streamlines these processes and reduces the risk of input error.
"Jet Reports was implemented alongside Dynamics NAV. Allowing our finance
users to modify pre-defined reports and create a reporting suite suitable for our
business. These were built within the finance team without the requirement for a
programmer or IT support."
QLS now has an easy to use financial platform that brings together several different
systems and areas of the business, providing far greater business insights and
allowing QLS to focus on providing a top notch service and being a dynamic hub for
its members.
