1. EBS Operational Reporting at Santos
Evaluation, Selection & Implementation
Tony Scholefield & Jeff Feim
Santos / EiS
16 August 2010
The most comprehensive Oracle applications & technology content under one roof
2. Agenda
• Background
• Product overview
• Where we are now
• What’s new/what’s next
• Q&A
3. About Santos
• We are:
– Oil & Gas Exploration & Production

and Asia
• Offices (using Oracle) in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Jakarta,
Gladstone and Roma
• Field sites in Cooper Basin, Southern Queensland, offshore

4. About Santos

Treasury
– Supply – PO, IN, OM, i-Procurement, Sourcing,
Intelligence
– Human Resources – HR, Payroll, OTL, OLM, Self
Service, iRecruitment
5. Why a new reporting solution?
• R12 upgrade -> retire Oracle Discoverer
• End users were never happy with the End
User Layer (EUL)
• Users do not have time to specify reports
and cannot articulate what they want
6. The process
• Define the criteria
– Upgrade path to R12
– Implementation effort
– Price
• Evaluate the options / candidates
• Choose the vendor / solution
7. Selection strengths
• HR data is well represented, better than other options
e.g iRec
• Little configuration required versus Oracle BI Analytics
(which is more expensive and would take more time)
• It picks up DFFs, KFF’s, SITs, EITs, A/C Code Structure
• Discoverer converter. This looks like a good way to
produce a “quick and dirty” report but we have not tested
it yet. We want to minimise the number of custom views
8. EiS provided a toolset to resolve other issues
• Legacy Oracle Apps 10.7 system being used by the
business to query pre EBS 11i data (i.e. 8 years old). Will
replace this with a simple enquiry interface in EiS
• MySantosFinancials – projects data mart. EIS developed
Project WorkBench for project enquiry and drilldown
• Therefore, will retire these two legacy systems with
supported applications
9. Clinching the deal
• Santos installed product – supported remotely by EIS
• Site visit for training & requirements for our custom solutions; Chief
Architect & FinApps analyst visited Santos in December 2009
• 10.7 & Project WorkBench solutions presented
• Proof Of Concept
• Evaluation
• Decision to proceed
• Negotiations with LogicalTech

16. Where we are now
• Assigned a project manager
• Assigned a Business Analyst / Report Developer
• Scoped the project

19. % fit seeded to custom views
• We used HR as our “pilot”
• 7 reports have been developed – 6 required view changes
– Some were surprising
• No supervisor name (but did have supervisor id)
• Incorrectly determining person type
– Other
• Org/Function
• Ex-employee (iRec)
• Excluding employees without a primary address
• User Name (may be deemed custom)
– Custom
• Specific HR lookup – Termination
• iExpenses
20. EiS performance
• Timeliness of response to issues – excellent
• Tool
– quality – good but we need to upgrade to V7
– Versus Oracle Discoverer
• Much faster
• Typically Copy & Save to develop custom reports
• Authoring from scratch can be more onerous than Discoverer
• ALL modules & ALL Localizations = 1,000 Delivered Reports = Approx 750 Views
• Can Copy, modify & Save delivered Reports & Views
• 22 issues have been logged with EiS
21. Next Steps
• Agree R11/R12 delivery
• Funding/Resource misalignment – looking to EiS
• Discuss support of “Santos” product with EiS
• Discovery
• Legacy 10.7 specifications
• Complete HR build
• Install V7 in newly refreshed LBSDEV
• Export/Import V6 custom developed reports
22. Shameless self promotion
• I am presenting again tomorrow at
12:00noon on
“Santos Change Management Utility,
our alternative to Application Change
Management Pack”
23. What’s New/What’s Next
• R12 – significant data changes with financial
– Support native R12 installations & R11* migrations
• New Functionality
– XL-Connect
– Report Publishing
– Connect to ANY external DB including non-Oracle
• Upward compatibility with Fusion
24. What’s New/What’s Next
• XL-Connect
− Refresh/rerun reports from inside MS-Excel
− Nest multiple reports & refresh all at once
− Modify spreadsheet (eg, calculated columns) & refresh
• Report Publishing
− Execute once – security reapplied for access based on Responsibility
− Very efficient for retail, departments, etc.
• Fusion Compatibility
− Built on EBS Data Model
− Built on Fusion MiddleWare – eg OAF
