2. The Streets Stereotype
The Streets are an
Urban group and Mike
Skinner, the front man
has been stereotyped
as a “geezer”. The
majority of The
Streets’ music video’s
are set in urban areas
and Skinner has a
cockney tone in his
rhyme which works
well with the setting.
3. Urban Music
• The Urban genre is mostly
followed by a young male
audience between the ages
of 14 – 25.
• They can relate more to the
lyrics than other
demographic because the
lyrics are usually about
youth culture. For example,
going on night out, holidays
(left).
4. Demographics
• The song “Dry Your Eyes Mate” is different to normal Streets song because
it is more downbeat. The song is about losing someone close to you. We
then see him struggling to come to terms with his loss with no one to look
to for help. It is fair to say that a majority of the people living in the UK
have suffered a form of loss. Therefore, it is easier to reach out to a wider
target audience because more people can relate to the lyrics.
• Themes in the film will also aid appeal of the video. Such things as dead
trees show signs of neglect and pain.
• The target audience is people from the age of 14 to about 40. This is
because this is the age gap where you will find more break ups. However,
we will be appealing to the older ages because the lyrics can also relate to
bereavement. All classes will be targeted because anyone can be left with
pain and loneliness after losing someone. However, the social classes B, C,
D and others below will be the major targeted groups. All races can relate
to this but it is more likely that the white race will like this song more.
