Peachtree Hope Charter School (PHCS), located in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., recently
welcomed Ms. Michelle Rhee, former chancellor of D.C. public schools and respected
education expert, to its campus. Present for the first Georgia Town Hall Parents’
Meeting held at PHCS, Ms. Rhee joined parents and community members from around
the metro Atlanta area on February 10, 2011, for the discussion.
In coordination with the GA Parent Advocacy Network (GPAN), PHCS organized the first
Georgia Town Hall Parents’ Meeting with a goal of discussing the future of education within
the state. As founder and CEO of national grassroots movement StudentsFirst
(www.studentsfirst.org), Ms. Rhee weighed in on a number of key topics revolving around
improving education during the meeting, which ranged from educational choice and equity
to high teacher standards and public school systems.
SABIS® VP of US Operations, Mr. George Saad, attended the meeting and commented:
"Ms. Rhee represents the collective voice of all those who believe that our children
deserve world-class education. We are very encouraged by her work and efforts."
Through StudentsFirst, Ms. Rhee works to engage parents, teachers, students,
administrators, and citizens throughout the country to channel their energy to produce
meaningful results on both the local and national level. Similar to SABIS ®’s mission to
make a difference through education, StudentFirst’s ultimate goal is to transform public
education.

“As a new charter school in the state, Peachtree Hope recognizes the crucial role it plays
in providing Georgia students with a solid academic foundation that drastically improves
their future. Having Ms. Rhee conduct the meeting and provide her insight really motivates
us to continue our efforts!” commented PHCS Director, Ms. Kendra Shipmon.
PHCS opened its doors in the fall of 2010 to 550 students enrolled in kindergarten through
Grade 5. The school will expand by one grade level each year until it offers a full K-12
program. PHCS is managed and operated by Minnesota-based SABIS® Educational
Systems, Inc., which currently runs a total of nine high-performing charter schools in six
states across the U.S.
One of the newest members of the SABIS ® School Network, PHCS joins a global network
of schools that educate more than 60,000 students in 15 countries on four continents. Like
all SABIS® schools, PHCS implements the dynamic SABIS® Educational System, which
prepares students for admission to college, fosters a lifelong interest in learning, develops
responsible world-class citizens, and blends quality education with traditional values of
hard work and responsibility for self and others.
