This document summarizes a community-based sheep breeding project in Menz, Ethiopia. The project aims to improve the local sheep breeds through within-breed selection. Baseline data was collected from over 1,500 sheep across 125 households. Top performing rams were selected based on traits like weight and survivability. Farmers were trained and are now involved in data collection, selection, and care of communal ram groups. While progress has been made, continued support is still needed in areas like farmers' groups, animal health and feeding, and market access.
