Welcome to the Hospital Design and
Infrastructure Conference!
During its decade of success, this conference has witnessed the
transition from the very basic primary to a state of the art tertiary care.
We are now entering the age of ‘Clinical Centres of Excellence’ as the
region progresses in adapting to its unique demographic needs.
In its 11th year this conference will share case studies, debate and
discussion to focus on ‘three’ focused areas under the theme:
Building to Manage Regional Demand
1. Management Planning
2. Design to Build or Upgrade
3. Infrastructure Performance Measurement
Stakeholders who take decisions on the region’s strategic planning,
efcient design and patient centred outcomes, gather during this four
day conference. The pre and post conference workshop empowers
delegates with an implementation plan to take better business and
clinical outcomes.
Decide the future of healthcare projects by being a part of this
seasoned gathering!

How Far are we from an Efcient Hospital Design where
Waiting Rooms aren’t Necessary?
You can get rid of waiting rooms but how do you get rid of the wait? The
core cost of waiting room space is a burden on healthcare. If this cost
were directed to re-design clinics, would doctors and nurses work in
conundrum to extend delivery of care via a managed flow process?

REGIONAL OVERVIEW

14.30

Designing Supply Chain Distribution Channels to Optimise
Physician and Nurse Time
A huge opportunity is overlooked to control costs, improve patient safety
and satisfaction within logistics. This session will focus on core aspects
which leverage metrics to develop a service line which generates end to
end transparency, minimises clinician involvement and helps them focus
on billable supplies.

15.00

Process and Operational Excellence in Ancillary Services and
Delivery
Processes don’t fall into place on their own. Integral to attain a
benchmarkable status are your ancillary staff who meet the patient more
that the physicians do. Can they be extended autonomy to escalate this
to a higher level of achievement?

Dr. Harish Pillai, MBBS, MHA, MBA, CEO, Aster MedCity, India

Seattle Children’s Hospital Case Study: Lean Design for Value
Based Hospital Care
Seattle Children’s Hospital and NBBJ Architecture partnered to build
a satellite clinic and surgery center using one of the rst US Integrated
Project Delivery contracts. Both parties shared risk and reward to
maximise budgets, reduce construction time and increase sustainable
design opportunities.
Outcomes:
Their commitment to continuous performance improvement and
integrated delivery shaved three months, 30,000 SF and $30 million
off its new Bellevue clinic, proving the theory that the highest
quality care is also the most cost effective.
Patricia Bussard, Former COM (Clinic Operations Manager),
Seattle Children’s Hospital, USA

11.45

From Revenue Driven to Value Based – The Case for
Decentralised Care

Patient Focused Lean Operations
for Value Based Care

Workshop Details:
This workshop will integrate stakeholders in the hospital build process. Each has
an important role to play via input at every stage. Who should really get involved,
when and where to achieve desired outcomes when planning a facility, it’s scope,
budget and on time delivery for optimal performance with one focus in mind – The
Patient.

Workshop Details:
Daily clinic operations that incorporate lean principles, standard processes and
continual improvement work by engaged teams denitely benet both patients and
staff who care for them. Discover strategies for transforming clinical care through
hardwired communication techniques, on line response, and utilisation of visual
systems..

Learning Objectives
• Understanding demand
• Identifying stakeholders
• Managing budgets
• Communicating medical processes
• Attaining outcomes and meeting objectives

Learning Objectives
• Discuss how lean designed spaces are organized to accommodate
interdisciplinary practice and leverage multipurpose space.
• Describe the value of process mapping in creating cohesive teams who
provide stellar patient experiences.
• Describe the importance of 5s processes in maintaining the foundation of a
lean clinical operation
• Explain how huddles and visual systems contribute to a high functioning team.
• Describe how incorporating audit activity into daily operations can “take the
pain” out of auditing and support ongoing operations.
• Take back tools to evaluate your operation and implement immediate
improvements

Lee Stuart Huntley, CEO, Mafraq Hospital, UAE DESIGN TO BUILD OR UPGRADE CASE STUDY 10.00 Medical City Case Study: Commissioning an Iconic Project from the Ground Up An in-depth view of how international best practice meets local needs via clinical centres of excellence with a direct impact on the economy. This case study runs you through the planning, design and build of a medical city integrating stakeholders with a parallel focus on clinical outcomes and ROI. 12.45 Lunch and Networking 14.00 How Far are we from an Efcient Hospital Design where Waiting Rooms aren’t Necessary? You can get rid of waiting rooms but how do you get rid of the wait? The core cost of waiting room space is a burden on healthcare. If this cost were directed to re-design clinics, would doctors and nurses work in conundrum to extend delivery of care via a managed flow process? Bradley Kellogg, Chief Operating Ocer, Oasis Hospital (A CURE afliate), UAE Patricia Bussard, Former COM (Clinic Operations Manager), Seattle Children’s Hospital, USA Rita Taylor, Director of Nursing and Quality, Amina Healthcare, UAE Alec Napier FACHE, Director of Patient Experience, Tawam Hospital, UAE PANEL DISCUSSION OPENING KEYNOTE 9.00 CASE STUDY REGIONAL OVERVIEW 14.30 Designing Supply Chain Distribution Channels to Optimise Physician and Nurse Time A huge opportunity is overlooked to control costs, improve patient safety and satisfaction within logistics. This session will focus on core aspects which leverage metrics to develop a service line which generates end to end transparency, minimises clinician involvement and helps them focus on billable supplies. 15.00 Process and Operational Excellence in Ancillary Services and Delivery Processes don’t fall into place on their own.
