3. River Eume:
Legend about this river:
An old legend says that when God created the three rivers that originate in the Xistral, Eume, Landro and Masma, promised
every year life of a man who first came to the sea. The Eume, betrayed by the other two that left him sleeping, woke up
angry and crossed valleys and mountains to reach the sea first, carving a wild and rugged channel, a channel and whitewater
canyons carved in stone, set in the last redoubt of Atlantic forest. Such was the vengeance of men by such audacity that
since mid-last century, have insisted on the river charged as those stolen lives dammed miles of runway, dry or
contaminated. Today it is no longer can be said to be a river Eume alive. And since its birth in the Xistral sierra, low the river
Eume cheerful and wild Pontoibo only to where and waters begin to subside in the first reservoir .
Born in the mountains of O Xistral (in the province of Lugo) and merges with the Atlantic
in the Gulf Ártabro (northwest peninsular).
Passes through the municipalities of Abadín, Muras, Vilalba, Xermade, As Pontes, Capela,
Monfero, Cabanas and Pontedeume, where it empties after a journey of 80 kms, forming
the Ria de Ares.

Serra, at 460 meters high,
near Tafornelos, in the
municipality of Somozas.

between Jubia, in the
municipality of Santa Maria
Narón and Neda, at the
bottom of the Ria de Ferrol,
one of the largest in Galicia

bread by the force of the
waters of the river for the
ships that leaving the port of
Ferrol . Thanks to this and
other mills pulled the famous
bread of currency which is an
annual festival celebrates the
first Sunday in September.
6. Porto do cabo or das Mestas
Lower river belonging to the Atlantic.
El Mestas born in Porto do Cabo (Moeche) of the
union of several rivulets. Drain the interfluve between
Mera and Cerdido Xuvia crossing through the
southeast to northwest. After about 18 km long, flows
into the beach Vilarrube (Valdoviño - Ria Cedeira)
forming a broad estuary.
Tributaries: Regueiro, Picadeiro, Fervenza do
Carballeiro and Fraga da Regos and Cabanela.
The Rio das Mestas or Cape Porto do not be classified as highly attractive nautical tourism, for its extension,
width and flow. The power of the criminal practice fishing is the main attraction.
The river and its tributary Fervenza da Carballeira, has in its half bed a cascade interesting in nature tourism
and scenic but both aren’t marked and the first with very difficult, almost impossible to access because the
trails are overgrown with weeds.
It is navigable by small boats to the Roman bridge of Porto do Cabo, only at tide high, being usual amongst
some fishermen fishing in exercising its estuary.
