4. The hall of Mirrors
The Versailles Mirror Galerie
(La Grand Galerie des Glaces in
French), served daily as a
passageway and a waiting and
meeting place. It was used for
ceremonies on exceptional occasions,
when sovereigns wanted to lend
splendor to diplomatic receptions,
or distractions (balls or games) on
the occasion of princely weddings.
And it inspired most of the
Mirrors places of many Palaces as
you can see here .
17. The principal feature of this hall
is the seventeen mirror-clad
arches that reflect the seventeen
arcaded windows that overlook the
gardens.
Each arch contains twenty-one
mirrors with a total complement
of 357 used in the decoration of
the galerie des glaces
The construction of the Hall
of Mirrors( Versailles)
began in 1678
