This document describes common name services in OpenUp!, including:
1. The development of a common names provider that can enrich metadata with vernacular names for plants and animals in multiple languages.
2. Plans to follow specifications for Google Refine reconciliation APIs and include metadata like language, geography, and taxon information in name records.
3. An architecture with separate services for scientific names and concepts that will feed into a common names service to integrate names from various sources.
4. An example implementation extracting common names for the plant family Annonaceae from different sources.

Service Metadata
A call to the service without any query will return the service metadata.

Query Request
The query object should be passed as JSON formatted object using the "query" parameter.
Single Query Mode
Query the service using a single taxon name.
Parameters
A query: Name to query for
limit: Limit number of results
type: should always be "/name/common"
