Hodges Stadium Executive Summary
Our product is the usage of Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida. Hodges Stadium
is one of seven facilities in the U.S. that’s certified by the International Association of Athletic
Foundation (IAAF). It is home to the UNF track and field. The stadium can hold up to 12,000
people and currently hosts the NCAA track and field preliminaries. The purpose for the proposal
and our goal for Hodges Stadium is to bring more major track and field events into the
University of North Florida and the city of Jacksonville, and to also attract major sports
corporations. We want to utilize Hodges Stadium to the best of our ability in order to become
more attractive to youth, collegiate, amateur, and professional sports and athletes. The objective
is to bring in more business by increasing tourism activity in Jacksonville. The University of
North Florida and Hodges Stadium will be the catalyst for the increase. The increase will consist
of renovations around Hodges Stadium to better accommodate a larger audience, which will
open a gateway for Hodges Stadium to be able to host a plethora of events. The events will
consist of multiple local, national, and international track meets, concerts of greater magnitudes,
and the ability to be able to host multiple professional sports teams like we did with the national
soccer team in 2014. Other sports events that can also be hosted at Hodges stadium are rugby
(collegiate and professional), soccer (collegiate and professional), and lacrosse (collegiate). We
also have a great positioning aspect here in Jacksonville. Location is very crucial and we feel that
our location is more ideal then places like Eugene Oregon. Jacksonville has its own international
2. airport along with suitable infrastructure to handle the increased amounts of people. We also
have many beach access and our weather is ideal. The promotion for Hodges Stadium to bring
more track and field events to Jacksonville will consist of promoting our weather, location, and
the endless amounts of entertainments in and around the city of Jacksonville. We’ll also promote
the fact that a higher percentage of the nation’s top high school track athletes are in the south east
region of the United States, which would allow the athletes to participate in the NCAA events
more easily. In conclusion, The city of Jacksonville and the University of North Florida was the
host to eight track and field events in 2015, featuring two national championships, a state
championship, and five collegiate meets. The University of North Florida was chosen to host the
NCAA, FHSAA, USA track and field and the Junior Olympics at Hodges Stadium. This events
were set to have had a local impact of more than $25 million, in which hotel occupancy rates
exceeded 85 percent the weekend of the NCAA and Junior Olympics events. If other sports
events are incorporated for the University of North Florida and Hodges Stadium to host, there
would be endless possibilities of what can happen to the city of Jacksonville positively.
