Hello Seniors! Thanks for coming in. Please listen to the following presentation regarding Hamilton High’s Awards Night Program which will be on Wednesday, May 19 th starting at 6:30 pm. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully in order to be on the invitation list.
Have you had scholarship offers this year? There are many types of scholarships you could have been offered, including merit based from your school of choice, community based from a private organization, parents work-place based from employers to the employees children, and athletic based. If you have any of these offers, I need to know about these for the Evening Program.
Have you enlisted with any of the Armed Forces? If so, I also needs to know this. Your military recruiter will be attending the program and they expect you to be there. If you cannot attend, please clear this with your recruiter.
This is referred to as the green sheet. If you answered yes to any of the previous questions you need to fill out this form. This form explains Awards night on the front and on the back it shows what information we need for the program. Some of you may have received more than four scholarship offers and if so, please add an additional page.
The next sheet attached to the green form is the Student Questionnaire. Your counselor will need this information to find out a little more information on your future plans. They will use this information when presenting your scholarship certificate to you on awards night. These two forms will help me generate an invitation list. If you do not plan on attending the awards night, simply fill out the green sheet and write “Will Not Attend” on this white questionnaire. These two forms are due to me no later than April 26 th . After that, your counselor will call you in to personally give you an invitation to the senior section of awards night.
Remember if you don’t let me know of your scholarships, you may not receive an invitation to awards night. Many times your parents are very disappointed when you are not acknowledged for your scholarship so make sure you let me know what you’ve received. Due date is anytime before April 26 th !
Ok so let’s recap this. What you need to do right now is fill out the green sheet and the white sheet if you’ve been offered any scholarships or if you are joining the military. If you receive additional scholarships after you’ve turned in your information to me, bring in the letter showing your new scholarship and I will add it to your list. Fill out the white questionnaire if you eith WILL will be attending awards night and even if you MIGHT be attending awards night. You can make your final decision closer to May 19 th .
The evening begins in the gymnasium at 6:30pm for the whole school. Once this portion is done, all grade levels that are receiving awards go to separate areas – seniors going into the auditorium. In years past you were recognized for having a 4.0 – we do not do this for seniors, we acknowledge scholarships and department awards only. You will sit on stage and your counselor will call you up to the podium to receive your scholarship(s). The college representatives will be there to give you their certification, If you are receiving a community based scholarship, the community member may be there to present that to you as well. As stated previously if you are joining the military, your recruiter will be there to present their certificate to you. The entire senior session takes a little over an hour.
Please remember, this is for scholarships and awards only, not need-based financial aid.
As a side note…If you receive an additional invitation from Mr. Bell’s office, you will be receiving an additional non-monetary award, either in the general session or in the senior session. Please see me if you are unsure which session you should be attending.
