Guiding Questions
1. How do the arts play a part in my
 school, especially since it is a performing
 arts school?


2. What are the positive aspects of
 performing arts schools? How have they
 succeeded?
Process of Inquiry
 I began by thinking about my guiding questions,
  wondering how I would be able to answer the
  questions.

 I took pictures of all the performing arts in my
  school and how my teacher incorporated the
  visual arts in her classroom.

 I asked my teacher how she felt about visual arts.
“The visual and performing arts
 are process-rich disciplines,
 and thus the bid to integrate
 arts into all lessons created a
 rich forum for process
 conversations.”- Williamson
 and Zimmerman
 Performing arts leads to
  improvements in learning because
  students become more engaged and
  are allowed to be creative within their
  projects.
Visuals around the school
These visuals represent famous people that have
succeeded in the arts, from musicians, jazz dancers,
artists, singers, playwrights, and philosophers.

incorporate the arts

 “Everything that we as a nation say we want for
  our children and demand from our schools can
  be found in the arts: academic achievement,
  social and emotional development, civic
  engagement, and equitable opportunity.”-Smith
 "If they're worried about their test scores and
  want a way to get them higher, they need to
  give kids more arts, not less," says Tom Horne,
  Arizona's state superintendent of public
  instruction. "There's lots of evidence that kids
  immersed in the arts do better on their academic
  tests.”-Smith

How my teacher integrated art
My teacher told me that she integrates art into her classroom
because it is a performing arts school, so she is able to
incorporate more art. Also the students are more inclined to do
art because they appreciate and enjoy it.

   Can or should children’s visual productions be evaluated?
   What do visual experiences mean to children? How do
    children develop and grow in their abilities to communicate
    visually?


 Connects to the Eisner article.
   Performing arts school show that it is important to
    incorporate the arts in education.
   Including arts opens up doors of opportunities.

  • 3. Guiding Questions 1. How do the arts play a part in my school, especially since it is a performing arts school? 2. What are the positive aspects of performing arts schools? How have they succeeded?
  • 4. Process of Inquiry  I began by thinking about my guiding questions, wondering how I would be able to answer the questions.  I took pictures of all the performing arts in my school and how my teacher incorporated the visual arts in her classroom.  I asked my teacher how she felt about visual arts.
  • 5. “The visual and performing arts are process-rich disciplines, and thus the bid to integrate arts into all lessons created a rich forum for process conversations.”- Williamson and Zimmerman  Performing arts leads to improvements in learning because students become more engaged and are allowed to be creative within their projects.
  • 6. Visuals around the school These visuals represent famous people that have succeeded in the arts, from musicians, jazz dancers, artists, singers, playwrights, and philosophers. Mary E. Nicholson #70
  • 7. Magnet Sculpture This magnet is placed at the entry way of the school to represent that this is a magnet school. School uses a metaphor to incorporate the arts into their school.

  • 15. How my teacher integrated art My teacher told me that she integrates art into her classroom because it is a performing arts school, so she is able to incorporate more art. Also the students are more inclined to do art because they appreciate and enjoy it.

How do children develop and grow in their abilities to communicate visually?  Connects to the Eisner article.  Performing arts school show that it is important to incorporate the arts in education.  Including arts opens up doors of opportunities.
  • 17. Personal Teaching Philosophy I would definitely incorporate the arts within my classroom. If I got the opportunity to work in a performing arts school I would, because I think it is good for students to gain experience with all of these different performing arts.
