participate!â
ď¨ Social Media is about being personal.
ď¨ Everyone has unique issues.
ď¨ Letâs be specific, and talk about your real-
world concerns.
5. Iâm online! Now what?
Organize Yourself
ďą Do your photos match?
ďą Is your bio consistent across platforms?
ďą Does your bio say anything personal?
8. Be Professional. (or not)
ď¨ I like cursing.
ď¨ Why donât I curse on
Twitter/Facebook?
ď¨ Do I mind people
cursing?
ď¨ Do I talk about
politics?
ď¨ Thatâs not the image
I want to present.
ď¨ No, I donât. I kind of
like it.
ď¨ Not really. I want to
control my
message.
10. 1. Leverage your current
relationships.
Creating New Relationships
11. Connect. Connect. Connect.
ď¨ Client databases
ď¨ LinkedIn (You already have this, right?)
ď¨ Business cards in your desk
ď¨ Outlook contacts.
ď¨ Vendors you love.
ď¨ Vendors you like.
ď¨ Vendors you hate.
ď¨ Facebook
Giving a part of yourself, endears you to others. Who here thinks the Oxford comma is necessary? Who here doesnât like it? Who likes the outdoors? Who loves coffee? Ketchup? We now have a handful of things (some important, some not important) to talk about, and we got there just from the bio.
Your best connections are made âover a beer.â Cases have been settled over a bottle of wine. Why does this work? Because youâre meeting each other as people â dare say, as friends. SM is an extension of âconnecting over a beer.â This is why itâs important for you to be personal â or at least personable.
Import contacts to LinkedIn. Run a contact check through Twitter and on Facebook. Connect to all the people you already know.
Take the time to find everyone. Engage people you already know first. Solidify those relationships in the SM space.Lots of SM platforms allow you to search your email contacts to connect you with the people you already know.
In Austin? Follow Austin people. In Houston, follow Houston groups. Why? Those are the people that might refer you direct business. Everyone knows someone in a car accident or in a plane crash or needs a transaction transactedâŚ. Your connection with them is geography. You both enjoy the city that you live in.
The more you connect to people â all people â the more your network grows. Following, friending, etc. means that potentially youâre the only attorney someone knows. They will call you. You either take it or refer it â and either way youâve made a best friend on either side. That attorney you refer to, will be more likely to refer to you. Youâve expanded your network without having done much of anything.
Creating a close-knit network can work, too. You just have to be more attentive.
