2. IMAGINE FOR DESIGN #1
• Idea #1
• Our materials were shredded felt and flat foam.
• We needed 1 sheet of felt that we shredded and 2
sheets of foam.
• The advantages of this idea is that both of the
materials are good insulators. Also these materials
cover all of the solar oven.
• Some disadvantages are that the foam has a large
impact on the environment.

3. IMAGINE FOR DESIGN #1
• Idea #2
• Our materials are the same shredded felt and flat foam.
• The units we need are different. We need 2 sheets of felt that
we will shred, and 1 sheet of foam.
• The advantages are that shredded materials are better
insulators and there is more shredded then flat.
• The disadvantages are that we might not have enough foam to
cover the sides of the solar oven.

6. PLAN FOR DESIGN #1
Material Units
We will use the
material by
Felt 1 Units
We will shred it and
put it on the bottom.
Foam 2 Units
We will put it on the
edges of the solar
oven.

10. CREATE FOR DESIGN #1
• Our heat score is the solar oven maximum temperature
subtracted from the control oven: 62°C-55°C=7°C
• Our time score is the number of minutes it took to cool down
which was 4 minutes.
• Our total impact score was 11.
• Our total solar oven score was 0.

11. IMPROVE FOR DESIGN #1
• The total score for our first solar oven was 0 points.
• The parts of our solar oven that worked well were the
insulation because we used shredded materials that are good
insulators.
• The parts of our solar oven that didn't work well was that our
impact score was too high because we used materials that
weren't recyclable and weren't reused.
• We will improve our impact score by using materials that are
don't hurt the environment.

18. CREATE FOR DESIGN #2
• Our heat is our solar oven maximum temperature
subtracted from the control oven: 37°-41°=-4°C.
• Our times score is the minutes it took to cool down
which was 5 minutes.
• Our total impact score was -4 points.
• Our new total score for the solar oven is 5 points.

19. REFLECTION
• Our improved design worked because our total score went up
5 points due to a low impact score on the environment. The
materials we changed were from foam and felt to sand, rocks,
and newspaper. However, the materials were poor insulators
because it didn't trap much heat in. Our temperature
decreased and the temperature didn't get higher then the
control temperature.
• If we could improve again we would put a better insulator
instead of rocks, sand and newspaper because the
temperature didn't get very high.We would want to make the
temperature go up.
