Preventing Public Health Problems Before They Start!
Tobacco
Reduce exposure to secondhand smoke.
Provide access to tobacco cessation.
Decrease the smoking rate of youth and adults.
Substance Abuse
Reduce underage drinking and the misuse of drugs.
Increase access to and retention in substance use disorder/addiction treatment.
Support community change to decrease high risk drinking/drug misuse.
School Based Health
Closely track students at risk of tobacco use.
Evaluate and monitor students suffering from poor nutrition and physical inactivity.
Provide interventions and treatment options for at-risk students through school-based clinics.
Home Visitation
Improve the health of young children including reducing second-hand smoke exposure.
Increase safety in the homes of young children.
Identify and address developmental delays early, improving school readiness and reducing special education costs.
Child Care
Increase the potential for healthy choices throughout a child’s lifetime.
Provide a solid foundation for the prevention of a wide range of range of health and emotional issues.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention
Decrease Maine’s teen birth rate.

Increase number of dental service providers in underserved areas.

Increase access to affordable prescription drugs for low-income elderly and people with disabilities.
Improve and maintain overall health of low-income elderly and people with disabilities.
Decrease overall health care costs by reducing the cost shift from caring for people with disabilities and the elderly
who do not have access to affordable medically necessary prescription drugs.
MaineCare
Increase access to preventive and medically necessary health care for low-income families.
Improve overall health of low-income families.
Decrease overall health care costs by covering families who would otherwise be uninsured and thus reducing the
cost shift associated with paying for the uninsured.
