                        This 1.5 million sq ft new prison facility
                        on a 150 acre site in north west Dublin is
                        being developed under a PPP procedure on
                        behalf of the Irish Prison Service.

                        The new prison will accommodate 1,400
                        offenders in 9 separate residential facilities,
                        with expansion capacity to 2,200.

                        Encompassing centralised support services,
                        including visiting, healthcare, sports,
                        catering and administration facilities, this
                        new prison will provide accommodation
                        for adult male and female, plus juvenile,
                        remand and immigration populations in all
                        security categories.

02                                  The mixed, one, two and three bed 65
                                    private residential apartments surround
                                    a first floor landscaped courtyard. The
                                    courtyard area is shared by the cultural
                                    functions of the building and this provides
                                    additional life and vitality to this often ill
                                    conceived but fundamental amenity of
                                    urban living.

                                    The apartments have brick façades to
                                    the streets, incorporating brick returns to
                                    balconies in order to express the solidity
                                    and quality of the material. The public
                                    elements of the building are made of rich
                                    Jura limestone with large glazed panels
                                    expressing the 7 metre high dance studios
                                    and cultural spaces within.

                                    The ground floor enterprise and retail areas
                                    are clad in dark Kilkenny limestone which
                                    provides a durable and timeless quality to
                                    the building base and public areas.

                                                                    The municipal arts building houses ‘Dance

                                         As part of HKR’s design, several late 18th
                                         and early 19th century industrial buildings
                                         will be retained and reused including
                                         the largest surviving Smock Windmill in

                                         uses in every part of this 3.2 acre city

                        HKR Architects is the lead architect on
                        this Public Private Partnership proposal
                        by the Ascon Durkan Newlyn consortium
                        and Dublin City Council.

                        The proposal is for the development of the
                        42 acre site at the junction of the M1 and
                        Oscar Traynor Road in north Dublin.

                        The scheme, which has been designed
                        in collaboration with Make Architects,
                        Henchion & Reuter Architects, Gehl
                        Architects and Whitelaw & Turkington
                        Landscape Architects, features a major
                        new urban park surrounded by over
                        650 residential units and ancillary
                        developments including retail, hotel,
                        crèche and educational facilities.

                        Bridgefoot Street is part of a PPP proposal
                        for Dublin City Council which called
                        for a new urban strategy prioritising
                        sustainable design and high quality public
                        spaces which would integrate with the
                        existing surrounding apartments and the
                        Digital Hub scheme in Dublin city centre.

                        HKR is acting as lead architect on this
                        mixed use development. The development
                        will include a crèche, community centre and
                        a park, plus a mixture of 184 apartments
                        and live/work units with commercial and
                        retail space at ground level. The scheme
                        will create a new vibrant urban area in this
                        part of the inner city.

                        The scheme is contained within 2 main
                        buildings designed around large public
                        courtyards with the community centre

                        HKR was commissioned by the Irish
                        Courts Service to undertake extensions
                        and renovations to the Courthouse at
                        Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, in the south of
                        Ireland.

                        The accommodation to be provided
                        includes new prisoner holding areas,
                        meeting facilities for solicitors and clients,
                        and secure vehicular access, in addition to
                        a general upgrade of facilities for all users
                        of the building.

                        The environmental services installation is
                        also being refurbished and measures are
                        being taken to ensure compliance with
                        statutory access and Health & Safety

     suburban exodus with a viable alternative
     for family living.

The new prison will accommodate 1,400 offenders in 9 separate residential facilities, with expansion capacity to 2,200. The courtyard area is shared by the cultural functions of the building and this provides additional life and vitality to this often ill conceived but fundamental amenity of urban living. The apartments have brick façades to the streets, incorporating brick returns to balconies in order to express the solidity and quality of the material. The public elements of the building are made of rich Jura limestone with large glazed panels expressing the 7 metre high dance studios and cultural spaces within. The building contains 7 world standard dance studios with 7 metre clear ceilings and carefully considered natural lighting through full height picture windows and ‘Reglit’ glass panels. It also contains teaching spaces, changing rooms and administration spaces as well as a café at ground floor. The development will include a crèche, community centre and a park, plus a mixture of 184 apartments and live/work units with commercial and retail space at ground level. The scheme will create a new vibrant urban area in this part of the inner city. The scheme is contained within 2 main buildings designed around large public courtyards with the community centre located in the public park opposite.
