2. FROM THE PRESIDENT
GLOBAL STUDIES, PEACE & LEADERSHIP SUMMER SEMINAR
JULY 18-AUGUST 22, 2012
℘ I sincerely would like to welcome you to Hiroshima Jogakuin University for the 2012 Global Studies, Peace and
Leadership Summer Seminar. We have prepared a wonderful program for all of you, and I assure you that this
opportunity will remain a lifelong experience.
I would also like to express my deep appreciation to President Ruth Knox of Wesleyan College, President Caroline Whitson of Columbia College in
the United States and President Elizabeth Charles of Isabella Thoburn College in India for sending their students to the Global Studies, Peace and
Leadership Summer Seminar- an intentionally sequenced format comprised of a virtual classroom, the Wesley Foundation Sponsored Peace Seminar
and Fieldwork in India and Thailand.
In terms of your expectations, we have many outstanding lecturers who will give us profound insights to your academic interests. We will also
prepare an international night, a film night and also a cultural night to expose and celebrate our multi-cultural environment. We are excited to have the
first ever student based media team to capture and share these experiences with the world through our online journal that is launching with the
seminar- The Global Voice.
During the Peace Seminar, with the support of President Ii and Professor Shimazaki of Kobe College we will have contemporary dance team
performing on the first day from Kobe College for the opening event. I am very grateful for both President Ii and Professor Shimazaki of Kobe College
who are ensuring that the opening of the Peace Seminar is an exciting one. Also please note that we have arranged home-stays with local Japanese
families for a few of the evenings- many of our Global Studies in English students are looking forward to hosting their international counterparts.
Needless to say, the main program in Hiroshima is to attend the Memorial Peace Ceremony that will be held in the Peace Park with the
Representatives of various countries and Governor and Mayor of Hiroshima as well as thousands of Hiroshima Citizens in the morning of August 6th.
I am sure you will be given a time to think about Peace and Reconciliation during the seminar. I will guarantee that this will be an unforgettable
experience in your life.
President Hiromi Nagao PhD
