The document discusses the production of a media piece called "Deception" created by students for a coursework project. It aimed to emulate the style of a crime/mystery thriller similar to shows like CSI. Inspiration was drawn from films and TV shows of the genre in aspects like the use of flashbacks, interrogation scenes, and dramatic music. The intended audience was described as fans of the thriller genre, particularly other teenagers. The document discusses how Summit Entertainment would be a suitable media institution to distribute the project as it has supported similar films in the past appealing to younger audiences. Technical skills learned through creating the project included camera operation, editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, and studio setup.

2. Q: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
3. We deciding on the story for our piece, we choose to create an opening sequence that would emulate the style of a crime/mystery thriller. Throughout the production of our coursework we drew inspiration from various other films and television programmes of the Crime/Mystery genre: CSI- interrogation scene. We used this, as CSI is a modern crime series which provides a similar audience to the one targeted for our film. Another aspect of the CSI programme which we tried to emulate was the use of flashbacks. This allowed us to cut from one scene to another effectively, allowing us to explain the story clearly.

6. Q: How does your media product represent particular social groups ?
7.

9. UNIVERSAL ENTERTAINMENT When thinking of institutions for film we had Universal in mind as it has previously shown films such as The Bourne Ultimatum and State of Play ; both films which highlight and represent similar features to our film. However modern day productions of Universal have shifted to films for younger audiences such as Despicable Me, Nanny McPhee and Pokemen Returns. Some of these films are the product of years of skillful animation work.

11. Summit Entertainment This is the ideal institute that would represent our work .it is modern and supports films that would appeal to our audience of young adults and teens. An example would be its production of Cruel Intentions. It has also shown other audience appealing films such as American Pie not to mention Summit Entertainments release of teen-hit Twilight. This shows that its audience is well targeted and respond well to its releases. Furthermore we believe Summit would be likely to showcase our work as its inspiration was drawn from popular TV series CSI. The plot is complex yet ideal for our audience as they would find it gripping and interesting.
14. Q: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
15. Throughout our film project, we, as a team, have learned many different technical processes; such as video camera operation, editing on Adobe Premiere Pro and studio setup. These technologies are obviously vital in the film production industry, as from our own experience we know that our film would not have been as successful, had we not fully understood how to use these instruments together.
16. The title is typical of horror films as it has been kept simple and white to give it a minimal feel, and an eeriness about it. We used Garamond Black 90. we continued the use of this font and colour for the credits also. Film title We had the cop wearing a typical outfit consisting of a buttoned shirt and braces. The suspect was wearing casual clothes as he had just been arrested for interrogation. Setting/location Costumes and props
17. Camerawork One side of a reverse shot Bearing in mind the 180º rule Aerial shots Close up During filming we took a variety of shots– ranging from close-ups, aerial shots and shot reverse shots.
18. Editing Here we edited in cross dissolves so that the shots from scene to scene would flow better. And also added text and exponential fades so that the music would fade in/out accordingly
19. Q: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
20. From our preliminary task, we have learned much more in depth methods of filming and editing, along with technical skills picked up along the way. Throughout our coursework we developed and furthered our knowledge of both filming and editing. Compared to our prelim task, we have used several other effects, which developed and enhanced our project greatly. Whereas in the prelim, we used basic technical skills and filming techniques.
