3. Gold Rush
When gold was discovered in
the hills of the region Goias,
Portuguese settlers set up
slave camps to mine.
The Caiapo people were the
most successful in
undermining the digger's
work, attacking travelers and
cutting communication.
Governor Luis da Cunha did

and make peace with the
natives, as the government's
main focus was to mine all
