Tungsten Carbide Wear Resistant Overlays
No: 80 00 2
Issu ed: 2 00 8
Customer quote - ‘Overcoming Abrasive and Erosive wear means overcoming the
majority of our production and manufacturing challenges’
In an aggressive environment a Rotary Valve
can wear out and become in-operable within a
matter of weeks. The Rotary Valve pictured
has been tungsten carbide coated in the bore
of the body, the journals on the shaft and an
annulus around the periphery of both end
plates. The result is a four fold increase in the
service life of the valve
This Conveyor Screw from the cement
industry, works in an extremely aggressive
abrasive environment. As the diameter of the
screw wears, the efficiency of the screw
drops. This Screw has had a 60% Tungsten
Carbide powder applied to it through the PTA
(plasma transferred arc) system, in a bid to
increase productivity
ID Fans and Blowers working in dirty air
environments are exposed to abrasive wear,
typically on the back plate and blade tips. This
blower has been coated with a thermal spray
tungsten carbide to protect it from premature
wear.

Boiler Tubes are exposed to wear from
fine particle erosion and corrosion,
reducing overall wall thickness and
shortening service life. This bend is
being sprayed with a tungsten carbide
bearing alloy, which is subsequently
fused with a heating torch.
This Guide Roll from the Steel Industry
guides steel bar into the stand rolls. It
has been overlaid with 60% PTA
Tungsten Carbide powder. It is then
profile ground back to shape and
returned to service. The result is a
longer wearing part with reduced
downtime.

assistance with your specific application please contact one of our team
