EGNOS Data Access Service (EDAS)
• EDAS is an innovative data service provided by
EGNOS operator as complement to the Signal In
Space
• EDAS provides raw and processed data from the
EGNOS ground segment
• Telespazio is one of the first users of the EDAS beta
version since March 2009

- 20. Development of innovative services
EDAS
based on EGNOS EDAS
• Main advantages using EDAS:
– Provides EGNOS message even when the signal from the
geostationary satellite is not in view
– The availability of data from all EGNOS stations (RIMS), raw and
processed, delivers valuable inputs for Service Providers providing
positioning better performances for demanding applications like:
• electronic fee collection,
• city centre access,
• insurance pay per use,
• dangerous goods transport,
• high valuable goods transport,
• city logistics,
• car sharing,
• …….
– The improvements:
• Accuracy and Availability
• Reliability and Quality (errors continuously monitored to keep them
within predefined/customisable maximum values)

- 23. Conclusion:
Guarantee of positioning
• Contribute to reduction of enforcement cost
• Unambiguous allocation of liability in the value chain in case of
performance degradation => penalties linked to geo-time data
• Minimisation of false alarms
• Galileo and EGNOS non-technical performances:
– Accessible data archive of past performances
– Planning and information on maintenance and
performance outage
– Accreditation
• Enabling innovative features for security, IPR and privacy
protection (e.g. geo-encryption)
• Specific A-GNSS Services may facilitate the guarantee

- 24. Way forward
• While progressing on GNSS performances, it is required to
progress in parallel on others mandatory non-GNSS “enablers”
without which the applications are not really exploitable,
examples:
– better accuracy is usable only with high accuracy maps
– Signal in Space Authentication is usable only with others
authentication in the whole value chain
– security on GNSS is useful only if associated with secure
communications
– Real time positioning information is useful only if the other
available data are synchronised and updated
