Project Summary
Eastern Loggerhead Shrike
A couple of months ago, I was on the internet and I happen to come across a bird that
caught my eye and made something inside me want to help it. So I decided to make a non-profit
Facebook page that would raise awareness for the Eastern Loggerhead Shrike bird, which is the
bird that I took an interest of. After I have accumulated a good amount of “Likes” on the page, I
plan on presenting it to an organization in Quebec, where the bird is located, and see if there is a
possibly that they would like to take ownership of my Facebook page to help them spread the
important news of this bird much faster to the public. My goal is to have people in Quebec
become much more interested in this bird and have them be willing to go out and help this bird
be not endangered anymore. Through the Facebook I also want to have the resources they need
to prepare for, organize, and teach school children and others about the conservation that is
needed for migratory birds and other birds which are endangered.
This simple interest in this bird became something more. It became my bird project. I
went right to work creating a Facebook page and a blog post for the Eastern Loggerhead Shrike.
I found great information on the internet that would inform people about the bird itself and what
I was actually doing during my whole project to help this bird. This little bird helped my
accomplished a lot things that I thought I would never be able to do. I was able to create a
Facebook for the Eastern Loggerhead Shrike, which I was able to get thirty three “Likes” on the
page in a matter of a two day span. I thought that this was fantastic because most of the that
“Liked” the page were from New Jersey which shows that people don’t have to be from a
certain region to like a cause. I posted three things on Facebook and managed to get five likes on
2. one of them. Not only did I create a Facebook, I also created a blog called
www.helpthosebirds.com . At this present time I only have one follower, but this makes me
happy any way because I felt that I wasn’t even going to get one. On my blog I posted seven
posts with all different kind of subject matters that I thought would help the general public
understand more about the bird that I was trying to help. In those seven blog postings I put up
four links that I thought would come in great use for anyone that was as interested in the Eastern
Loggerhead Shrike as I am. By coming across this interesting bird and learning about it, I made
it my mission to help the Eastern Loggerhead Shrike. I am a 22 year old young woman that
always loved recycling and picking up trash to make a location save for the animals to live. But
what I love the most is the self-worth feeling that I get after I do something that I know made a
good impact on the earth and as of right now my self-worth is high.
