in global health. Content will provide a broad overview on major historical events, current trends, and
the constellation of actors contributing to the field.

Tentative: This plenary keynote will feature Marshall Ganz, a lecturer in Public Policy at the Kennedy
School of Government at Harvard University. Ganz has worked extensively with Cesar Chavez and the
United Farm Workers movement to enact political and social change through community building and
organizing.

Chapter Challenges 9:00pm – 10:30pm

Small group sessions hope to build community and provide a space for students to discuss important
issues surrounding their own motivations and their work with GlobeMed. Furthermore, small groups will
be an opportunity to give students a “voice” during the Summit, with notes being collected and
reviewed for future reference.

In this session, participants will understand how the communities we work with are mobilizing for the
larger movement for global health equity. An emphasis will be placed on exploring the advantages and
opportunities for growth between our partner organizations and our chapters.
Small Groups

Small group sessions hope to build community and provide a space for students to discuss important
issues surrounding their own motivations and their work with GlobeMed. Furthermore, small groups will
be an opportunity to give students a “voice” during the Summit, with notes being collected and

Plenary Keynote

Tentative: Joseph Amon is the director of the health and human rights division at Human Rights Watch.
Since coming to Human Rights Watch, Amon has worked on a wide range of issues related to health
and human rights, including: access to medicines, HIV testing, and the rights of prisoners and migrants
to access health care. We hope Dr. Amon will speak to the rapidly evolving global health field, from the
perspectives of both a practitioner and a policymaker, and how students can be best contribute to
shaping its growth.

The “Historical Lessons” sessions will attempt to delve into past successful or unsuccessful
mobilization around social justice movements or interventions and provide lessons to be applied to
our own efforts.
Advocating for Justice

These sessions hope to provide insight into the complex process of policymaking and advocacy for
global health, through both legislative and legal processes.

This year, we are honored to have Dr. Joia Mukherjee, Chief Medical Office of Partners In Health, deliver
the keynote address. Dr. Mukherjee gave the keynote address at the inaugural Summit – five years ago!
We hope she will speak to us about the future of global health and how our organization fits into the
broader movement for global health equity.

“Organizational Think Tanks” will ask Summit participants to delve into issues concerning GlobeMed’s
organizational development. We hope this session will provide an avenue for critical discussion and
evaluation about GlobeMed’s current operations as well as its future growth.
Panel: Leaders in
Business & Global Health 11:45am – 1:00pm

This panel discussion will feature key leaders from the private sector who have successfully led their
organizations into effective and sustainable partnerships with the public sector to support global health
delivery and implementation. We hope they will provide insight for two questions: first, what role do
businesses play in the broader movement for global health? And, second, how can students best
become engaged in this process?

Through this session, we hope participants will develop an understanding of the many avenues available

This session will feature former GlobeMed chapter leaders discussing their efforts in leading successful
organizations – both within GlobeMed and on campus. We hope Summit participants will leave this
session with a keen understanding of the elements required to make their chapter an exceptional
campus organization.
