Hinweis der Redaktion
Our initial attempts at breaking the conventions of a radio newscast was to include sound bytes from certain songs to emphasise the emotions of the news story we were talking about and at the same time add humour to it. For example if we as presenters were shocked at something we would insert a sound byte from usher’s OMG instead of saying oh my god ourselves. We also wanted to use a Chris Brown song as the background music for our news story about him and the official soundtrack for mission impossible for our cinemas news. However we discovered that if we did do that we would be violating copyright which is illegal so we had to change our ideas.Another thing I learned was that we needed to gather recent and most importantly real news in order for our newscast to be trustworthy and valid. To further reinforce this we also needed to interview people who were experience and familiar with the issues we were focusing on. We also needed to make sure that our news stories we compatible with the needs and interests of our audience which meant we had to do some research on them before gathering our news stories, we did this by creating a survey and distributing it.Before we could carry out our interview we had to carefully plan out the list of questions that we would be asking our interviewees, we had to make sure that they were open questions which allowed the interviewee to expand on what they were saying and allow us to receive as much information as possible, and also avoid leading question which influences the interviewee to reply in a certain way.I also learned how to write a news script correctly, what I learned was that when using audio inserts in radio scripts it is necessary to write AUDIO INSERT NAME: so that the presenter knows when to stop talking and the people who hold the responsibility of playing audio, know which audio file to use. We must also include IN WORDS which refers to the first words said in the audio insert and OUT WORDS which are the last words said in the audio insert. DURATION must also be included to that the presenter knows when to start reading the script again.
I also learned to use the recording device correctly. Before the sound quality of my recording wasn't very clear and clean because I would put the microphone to close to the person mouth. I also learned to edit my sound recording on the audacity software in order to have only the necessary sound bytes for my final piece, this software allowed me to remove sections where the person repeated themselves. Thanks to minimisation the recording equipment was easy to carry around, so it became very convenient. (small and light). Thanks to digitisation I am able to transfer the recordings to the computer and easily edit them.News storiesWhen finding my news story I needed to apply the knowledge I had of the different news values and make sure that my story had at least 3 news values which would help me decided what type of story to cover and how it would relate to the target audience of DEUCE FM. The news values my news story about new cinema releases has are simplicity, celebrity and local interest.Another thing I had to think about when writing and finding my news story was the news ethics, one of the ethics say that the journalist must not plagiarize, so when I was writing my script I made sure that it sounded unique to avoid any similarities with other news scripts.
