Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit provides a
Charitable Health Coverage (CHC) Program in all regions. The current
CHC program in Colorado is Kaiser Permanente Step (KPStep) — This
plan does not meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
and will be discontinued on June 30, 2014. Therefore, Kaiser
Permanente Colorado (KPCO) has a new CHC Program, Colorado
Bridge Program. Effective January 13, 2014, KPCO will begin
accepting Colorado Bridge Program Applications. For additional
information please contact Medicaid Charitable Programs Outreach &
Retention Specialist Tonya Bruno at tonya.x.bruno@kp.org or
303-344-7642.
Currently, Medicaid offers the following benefits and
services: primary care, behavioral health, hospitalization,
rehabilitative services, laboratory services, outpatient care,
prescription drugs, emergency care, dental care for children,
maternity care and newborn care.
The benefit package for newly eligible Medicaid clients will
be largely the same as the current Medicaid benefits, including
the enhanced mental health and substance use disorder benefit
and new dental benefit for adults, which begins in April 2014.
In accordance with federal law, the newly eligible Medicaid
clients will receive preventive and wellness services as defined
by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Preventive and
wellness services include aspirin use, blood pressure screening,
breast cancer screening, cholesterol screening, depression
screening, healthy diet counseling, sexually transmitted disease
prevention counseling, tobacco use screening and counseling
and others. In an effort to align Medicaid benefits, the current
Medicaid benefit package will be expanded to include these
preventive and wellness services.
Additionally, the newly eligible Medicaid clients will receive
habilitative services, which are considered to help individuals
maintain skills necessary for daily living. “View the Department’s
fact sheet on the new Medicaid benefits here. For more infor-
mation about Medicaid benefits visit Colorado.gov/HCPF/
