maximum water levels on the Danube river in the area of all cities
9. CURRENT SITUATION OF FLOOD PROTECTION SYTEMS
The level of development:
The waterways in the protected coastal area where PWMC "Srbijavode"
implement flood protection are protects about 1.1 million ha of land,
numbers of sttlements, industrial object and infrastructure
In Serbia a large number of waterways are not regulated, and present the
complexes without the possibility of land drainage: these areas are unavoidably
in danger

Cities in the coastal region's major rivers are not protected by the degree of
protection provided, with a high risk of damage due to flooding (Belgrade,
Smederevo, Veliko Gradište, Golubac, Kucevo, Petrovac .....)

ORDINARY AND EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES OF DEFENCE:
RHMS Service 4th April announce the formation of the flood wave on
Danube river
PWMC "Srbijavode" 7th April formed operational headquarters for flood
The risk of flooding announced general public and the staffs of the cities
on the coast.
Measures on a regular defense Sava river, Velika Morava and Danube
have been introduced in mid-March.
Extraordinary defense measures were introduced on the River Danube
and Sava 8th April
The state of emergency was introduced on 13th April in the most
affected cities in the coastal river Danube: Golubac, Veliko Gradiste and
Smederevo
27. EXAMPLES OF ACTIVE ROLE PWMC "SRBIJAVODE" IN
ORGANIZED AND IMPLEMENTATION OF FLOOD DEFENCE
Protection priorities:
Urban areas, population and the most valuable property:
industrial complexes, developed agricultural areas,
cultural monuments
Responsibilities the service PWMC:
Urgent raising defensive line on the shores of all coastal
cities to the announced levels, with the involvement of
the available machines.
Operational cooperation with the staffs at the local level
and direct cooperation with representatives of the
Department of Defense.
Providing emergency dynamics of production and
distribution of materials for defense, according to the
needs of the area
49. EFFECTS OF FLOOD DEFENSE IMPLEMENTED
DURING FEBRUARY - MAY 2006
Defense of major cities in the coastal rivers Danube and Sava, has
successfully implemented and achieved near maximum water levels,
which were higher and up to 0.50 m of the highest recorded in 1981. ,
when the floods caused severe damage,
No record of temporary defensive line spilling the protective objects,
Formation of defensive line is made rationally, with a minimum
investment
In the defense, effectively and quickly, were carried out emergency works
to repair the damage to coastlines in the Velika Morava, Mlava, Pek,
which are at a low investment prevented a large-scale damage.
50. EFFECTS OF FLOOD DEFENSE IMPLEMENTED
DURING FEBRUARY - MAY 2006
VOLUME WORK AND IMPLEMENTED measures DEFENSE- DEFENSE-

Total duration of defense: the sum of all the rivers on the territory of Serbia, a
total of 513 days, of which 243 days and 270 regular emergency defense. The
Danube is the defense lasted 55 days.
The total length of the defensive line on which measures are implemented and

The length of temporary defensive line: During the flood a total of 14,900 m built
temporary defensive embankment

Spent material: 350,000 bags, 8000 kg foil, 17,000 m3 of sand, 40,000 m3 of
